Activity 1
1. Antiochean Dissension/ Council of Jerusalem
Significance: It marked the spread of the Church outside Palestine and the origin of
becoming known as “Christians” started in Antioch. The controversy regarding the
Church was to be exclusively Jewish or a Church for all humanity was resolved at the
Council of Jerusalem when the apostles arrived, thus the Church became a Universal
Church.
Implication: Establishment of hierarchical order of authority in the Church. All humanity
is called for salvation and having the controversy resolved at the Council of Jerusalem,
the Church in the Philippines does not discriminate and the distinction between clean and
unclean people is removed.
2. Constantine and the Christian Church
Significance: His triumph led to the legalization of Christianity which made the
persecution of Christians stop during his period, and that led to the success of the
Christianity in rising. Under his reign, the church and the state united.
Implication: His publicly displayed his favor and interest to Christianity and even made
Sunday as a day of rest. In today’s Church in the Philippines, Sunday is still considered to
