ANSWER KEY
Unit 10
A
1 The first suggestion is to have a party at someone’s house; then an Indian place is
suggested; then they talk about the Italian place near the main square – Zizi’s or Zaza’s
or whatever it’s called. Finally, they talk about an Italian place near the sports centre, on
the left before the bridge.
2 Daniel said he would offer to have the party in his house, but his place is too small – and
he has flatmates. Indian food is rejected because Nicci isn’t up for it and can’t eat
anything too spicy. The first Italian place is rejected because it’s quite expensive and a
bit posh for a big get-together of friends.
3 The place they decide on is on the left before the bridge, near the sports centre. They
don’t know the name of the place, but Anna went there last week with some friends and
said it’s nice – very cosy, not a rip-off.
4 They decide on eight o’clock. Daniel suggested six or six thirty, but that’s much too early.
Anna suggests nine or nine thirty, but Nicci is worried that’d mean half the bars will have
closed by the time they’ve finished eating! Eight is a good compromise.
5 They plan to go to a bar after dinner for drinks or coffees, and then anyone who wants
to can go clubbing after that – once they’ve all had time to digest their food!

VIDEO SCRIPT
Nicci So, the course finishes on Friday. Let’s try to arrange something for everyone to do –
to celebrate.
Daniel That sounds like a great idea. I thought having a party at somebody’s house might be
fun.
Anna Are you offering to be the host?
Daniel I would if I could, but my place is too small and I have flatmates as well, so it’s not
possible. It’s a nice idea, though, no?
Nicci Well, to be honest, I’d rather go out somewhere, if that’s OK with you.
Anna Whatever. I’m easy. Do you have anywhere in mind?
Nicci Why don’t we all go out for dinner, together? And then maybe we could go
somewhere else after that.
Daniel Yeah, that sounds good, but remember I’m vegetarian, and I think one or two other
people are as well.
Anna Don’t worry! All restaurants serve vegetables.
Daniel That’s not the point. We’ll need somewhere that has vegetarian options, not just a few
vegetables.
Anna I know! I was just joking with you – but I do think the rest of the class won’t only want
to eat vegetarian food, so we need to make a compromise.
Daniel How about an Indian place? They do loads of veggie food usually.
Nicci I’m not really up for Indian. I can’t eat anything too spicy. Could we make it
somewhere else?
Anna How about Italian? Most people usually like Italian.
Daniel Yeah, that’s fine. There’s that place near the main square called Zizi’s or ZaZa’s or
something like that.
Nicci Yeah, Zizi’s. I’ve been there a couple of times.
Anna Yeah? What’s it like?
Nicci It’s nice. I mean, the food’s good, but it’s quite expensive, to be honest. It’s maybe a
bit too posh for a big get-together of friends.
Anna How about the one near the sports centre? I can’t remember the name. Do you know
where I mean?
Daniel Is it on the left before the bridge?
Anna Yeah. That one. What’s it called? Do you know?
Daniel No, but we can find out. What’s it like? Have either of you been there before?
Anna Yeah, I went there last week with some friends. It’s nice. Very cosy. Not a rip-off. It’s
good.
Nicci OK. Great. We should book a table, I guess. What time do you want to eat?
Daniel Six? Six thirty?
Anna Come on! That’s much too early. How about nine or half past nine?
Nicci But then half the bars will have closed by the time we have finished.
Anna OK. So let’s make it maybe eight o’clock. OK?
Daniel That’s fine.
Nicci I’ll check who is coming and I’ll book a table, OK?
Anna Great. And what shall we do after dinner? Do you want to go clubbing?
Daniel Maybe, but not immediately after dinner. My food won’t have been digested properly.
Nicci So let’s go to a bar first and people can drink or have coffees ... or do whatever they
want to do and then after that the people who want to go can go clubbing.
Anna Cool. Where do you have in mind?
Nicci I don’t know. It depends what kind of music people want. Personally, I think Madame
JoJo’s is always a good bet. It’s open late and they play good funky music.
