1 An artifact (loss of detail and false details)

Aliasing
2 Caused by discretization (finite resolution)

3
Aliasing occurs when an oscilloscope does not sample the signal fast enough to construct an accurate
waveform record.
Why Does Aliasing Happen?

Sampling = multiplication by shah function III(x) (also known as impulse train)

 =
Aliasing in Frequency Space

Conclusions:
High frequencies can alias into low frequencies
Can’t be cured by a different reconstruction filter
Nyquist limit: can capture all frequencies iff signal
has maximum frequency  ½ sampling rate

 =
Aliases are low frequencies in a
rendered image that are due to higher
frequencies in the original image.
1 a filter used before a signal sampler, to restrict the bandwidth of a
signal such as in audio applications

Anti-Aliasing 2 Pre-Filtering and Post Filtering are the two

types general purpose anti-aliasing technique.

Anti-aliasing is a technique used to diminish the jagged edges of an image or a line, so that the
3
line appears to be smoother; by changing the pixels around the edges to intermediate colors or
gray scales.
Application Of Sampling Theorem

1 To maintain sound quality in music recordings.

2 Sampling process applicable in the conversion of analog to discrete form.

3 Speech recognition systems and pattern recognition systems.

4 Modulation and demodulation systems

5 In sensor data evaluation systems

6 Radar and radio navigation system sampling is applicable.

7 Digital watermarking and biometric identification systems, surveillance systems.

Advantages of Digital Communication Systems

1 In digital signals, the impact of noise interference, distortion is less

It facilitates video conferencing that saves time, money, and effort

2 .We can perform video conferencing with someone or a group of
people without any traveling. In video conferencing, we can see the
facial expressions, which are helpful in reading the reaction of
people.
3 It is easy to implement, less expensive

4 The correction and detection of errors are easy in digital communication, as

there is a use of channel coding.

5 .As compared to analog signals, it is easy to save and retrieve digital signals

6 In digital signals, the configuring process is easy as compared to analog signals

7 There is a common encoding technique in most digital circuits, so for a number

processes, similar devices can be used.
