LESSON 3

DESIRING GOD IN PRAYER

A. WHAT MAKES A PRAYER VERY SPECIAL IN OUR FAITH?
The question being ask for you right now is “why the topic is just the same about
PRAYER? Is there no other topic than prayer? what makes prayer is so special in the
context of our Catholic faith?. These questions will be answered on this lesson 3. But
first thing to do is to examine your prayer life. Have you done pray this morning? Have
you pray for your parents today? And if you have prayed for them, what could be your
intentions in your prayer?
Prayer is not something like you buy a candy and then when you don’t like it
anymore you will not buy the next time. Prayer is about your commitment to follow
God, to listen to God, to invite God, and to be in communion with God. So, it is not
about your intentions is heard by God, but for more important is about your personal
DESIRE FOR GOD through PRAYER.

B. NOTHING IS PERMANENT IN THIS WORLD THAN OUR DESIRE FOR GOD

Everything in this world will pass away, nothing is permanent in this planet. You
may notice that there is always a funeral mass every day, and there is a birthday
celebrations. These realities make us realize that we are not permanent staying in this
world. There is a time for us to go back to our God in heaven. And at that time we will
face the judgment from God. How about this fact? Are you ready to die or do you want
to live thousand year more?
You have the answer by deepening your prayer life. In your personal prayer, you will
have the time to talk and listen to God, because your soul is longing for God in heaven.
Our desire for God is permanent, because earthly possessions will not satisfy us at all.
We may become rich persona in this world, but we cannot buy life, we cannot negotiate
with God whenever it’s time for us to go back to God. Therefore, the essential thing is to
keep our relationship with God in prayer permanent.

C. THE CALL TO PRAYER

In prayer, God the creator has the first initiative of love to encounter His creations
mysteriously and the human being must respond accordingly. This is a primary truth
that you have to know that, when you pray, God knows your heart, and whatever you
ask and have inside your heart will always noticeable by God. Because God knows the
secret of hearts.
Therefore, as we continue our desire for God, let us not forget that we have to
submit our very self totally in front of our God. Surrendering our will to His will and give
our attention to him during prayer time. God wants to reveal himself to us through
prayer. And that is the way we encounter Him only through prayer. God’s has revealed
to humanity through the prayer.

D. DESIRING FOR GOD

1
CLE G8 REV. NINO PERIDO, CRS

God is near to us, but it depends on us to allow Him to be with us or we rather

choose another way far from God. This basic question awakens us to realize the
existence of God in our basic daily activities. The Scripture tells us of the unfathomable
love of God towards humanity. God can only be experienced by our desire for Him to
come near us every day. Our desire for God leads us to the point of searching Him.

E. GOD IS IN THE HOLY SCRIPTURE

The Holy Scripture indicates that God can only be experienced through our intimacy
with him. But how it could be since we don’t allow Him to be part of our journey.
Therefore, the first thing to accomplish is to know his words in the scriptures. God
words is the lamp for our feet, it is a light that enlightens our way, it is living water that
can quench our thirst, and it is a living bread that will destroy our hungriness forever.

F. COMMUNION WITH GOD TROUGH PRAYER

To know the words of God through scriptures is not enough when we desire to
experiencing him. The next level is to invite him comes to us, to be with us in a warm
and harmonious atmosphere of our life journey. This level is called Prayer. It is through
prayer we can ask God to allow us to be in communion with Him.

By the virtue of our baptism, we are worthy to call God as our Father who cares for
us, then our thanksgiving must be aligned with our desires to seek Him every day. God
can be with us always not only if we desire to be with him, but more than that God does
want to be with us always because that is His sign of love towards us no matter how
unfaithful we are

G. THE CONCLUSION ON MAN’S DESIRE FOR GOD THROUGH PRAYER

1) Christians are totally depended on God.

GOD who is the Creator; Provider; and Father. Jesus was totally
depend on His Father. The plan for salvation is actually the proof of how
Jesus really obeys His Father. The mission of the Father is therefore
implemented by the fact that Jesus has a total trust in God the Father.
We should totally depend on God. As believers we are to be like Jesus.
2) Man’s desire for God is profoundly true and
reasonable
Man’s desire in longing for God is something very true based on reality
that nothing can stop man from craving always something to satisfy him.
Therefore because of this endless desire man looks for God to get help,
and to be loved with care then be able tackle with his reality of life here
on earth.
3) Prayer, Hope and Love are the means to express
man’s DESIRE for God.
God through Jesus act of prayer shows to humanity that only God is
the source of all graces and mercies. Therefor no other way that can
bring back man to God than through prayer, hope and love.
