Introduction

Leadership is the art of motivating people to act towards a common goal.


Organizations have a graded system of management called hierarchy that is almost
responsible for the leadership of the company. a leader must possess personal traits
more than management duties. Managers must ensure that daily process run well to
produce the desired results.

Automobile or automotive industry consists of companies and activities involved in


the manufacture of motor vehicles including engines, tires, batteries and fuel. They
provide mostly the passenger automobiles, trucks, pickups and sport vehicles.
Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, Nissan Motors and Hyundai are the leading motor
companies in the world now. In this automobile industry also the leadership is
important. The development of the company too depends on good leadership, good
management.

As I have given the topic automobile industry, I took Toyota company to do this
assignment. In this report I have mentioned the details gathered through an
observation I did about the company.

Toyota, is a company, which is leading the future mobility society, enriches lives
around the world with the latest technology. Their commitment to quality and
innovations, they try to exceed the expectations of people. Toyota as a frontrunner,
they seize opportunities and invests for the future. They develop new forms of
transportation. They create jobs, develop jobs and contribute to society. Safety is
their main focus. They raise their standards for reliability and make the customer
satisfied. They create new technologies. They deliver products and services that
meet and exceed the needs and expectations of their customers. Customer
satisfaction is the best reward they gain.
The way of leading the organization

Every organization has a graded system of hierarchy to manage the activities in the
organization. The development of the leadership is recognized like vital ingredient
for the success of the organization, the implications of larger leaders in teaching and
to learn from the future leaders was shown to be a tool with long range and effective.
The leadership is to gauge the energy level of top managers as it makes them too
able to learn its errors from the entertainment to be had in the place of work.

In Toyota Motor Company, both leadership and motivation have emerged as some
of the most important aspects of an effective management of people and referred to
as two elements that complement each other. Nowadays organizations are seeing
leaders as those who set direction, has a clear vision, inspire and motivate teams in
achieving tasks. Once motivated, employees begin to give the priority to
organizational goals and objectives.

Toyota builds employee`s strength as well as building cars. They referred leadership
as a common task where people support one another. They associated leadership
with interpersonal relationships. In here, managers involve their subordinates into
the thinking process, and adjust themselves to the projects and for the available
resources. They found the environment as being the principle factor that influences
the leadership.
Different leadership positions in the organization
As well as in the other organizations, Toyota Motor Company also have different
leaderships structures / managerial hierarchy. This is one of them.

As mentioned in this hierarchy, the general managers are the corporate leaders.
Tactical leaders are the assistant managers, senior managers and the section
managers. At last, the operational leaders are the specialist engineers, lead
administrators and the administrators.

In other way, most of the conceptual skills are used by the managers. Most of the
technical skills are used by engineers and the human skills are used by the
administrators.
Functions of the leadership in the organization
Automobile manufacturing is fast growing as an industry and is a growing sector in
developed countries. Automobile companies are basically responsible for creating,
designing and manufacturing vehicles of different kinds so as to sell them out to
the target audience either through company stores or through other retail chains.

The hierarchy structure of leadership had different functions to be done.

1. General Manager
A general manager is the person responsible for all organizational activities.
As a leader he acts as a transformational leader. The functions of a general
manager as a leader,
- Improving all the business activities
- Controlling budgets
- Work with goal oriented vision
- Authentic, self-aware and emphatic
- Handle conflicts among the team members.

2. Assistant General Manager


He is the person who ensure the daily business activities. He works as a
democratic leader at all. His functions as a leader,
- Makes the weekly/ monthly schedules for business activities
- Include the team members in decision making
- Assist the general manager in planning and training

3. Senior Manager
The senior manager is responsible for planning and directing the work of a
group of individuals. As a leader he,
- Monitors his team members well
- Corrects his team members at all
- Guides the team members
- Supervises the workers
- Assists the above management
4. Section Manager
He is the one who working on the basic managerial theory. As a leader in the
hierarchy of leadership in an organization he,
- Plans
- Organizes
- Directs
- Control
all the activities in the section that he is responsible for.

5. Specialist Engineer
He ensures that a company`s operations are according to the laws regulating
the particular industry.
- He maintains the technical background of the products
- Ensures the workers` activities
- Looks after workers` healthcare and other fields

6. Lead Administrator
He takes the ownership of the work and changes according to the needs of
the organization.
- Controls the situations
- Represent the sub workers
- Utilizes the resources
- Manages the time

7. Administrator
He is acting as a servant leader in the organization. He shows the
charismatic leadership qualities too.
- Work hard to meet the needs of the team
- Charismatic and generous
- Leads to high worker satisfaction
- Coordinates with the top management
The issues associated with leadership styles

1. Technology transformation
The technology and the economy are the main two factors that a leader must
face. Lack of strong orientation often hinders structural change in
organization also an issue related to this.

2. Cultural adaptability
This is the goodwill and the capacity to recognize. These differences can
include language, religion with others. Cultural adaptability changes an
important ability for directing towards the success.

3. Conflicts management
The conflicts in the organization can decrease productivity, the co-operation
and the communication, when the leaders solve the conflicts effectively, the
organizations can test positive advantages such as decision – making better,
stimulate creativity and the innovations too.

It is the base of the capacity of a leader to make connection with others.

Recommendations to improve leadership in the organization

1. Build a culture of trust, ownership and entrepreneurship


Culture is the manifestation of the shared values, believes and unhidden
assumptions that how people respond to one another.

2. Put the customer at the heart of the strategy


Now days companies have concentrated more on brand images. It is
consumer behavior that derives the brand strategy. So, leaders should focus
on consumer expectations more.

3. Being agile and reaching decisions faster


Leaders have to display a growth mindset themselves. They have to be role
models for agility. They must have a willingness to try new things.

4. Rethink the organizational model


Leaders must have ability to change and work closely with the team. They
should have the ability to think out of the box and act differently.
Conclusion

Gaining competitive advantage from the technology will be one of the biggest
challenge faced by the managers in the future. Leaders will need to keep their
organizations focused on the consumer. They have to make the correct
organizational culture and to attract and retain the best people. They have to stay
away from the traditional strategies and to develop new types of career paths.
