My expectations on the course is that I hope as a practitioner of civil engineering with

focus on construction I can apply the knowledge of soil mechanics in making a more stable and

safer structure. I know that knowledge of soil mechanics will enhance my understanding of the

foundation of the structures. I also expect to explain why stress and pressure as caused by the

environment like rain and flood will affect the properties and characteristics of soil and

eventually compromise the integrity of the soil. I expect that given these changes in the

parameters I can make adjustments in terms of the specifications of the foundation of the

structures.

In addition, I also expect to understand the different types of soils and the characteristics

they have which will be of use in designing a solid foundation of the planned structure. It may

also include the various changes that may occur in the soil while the structure is there.

I also expect to learn the prevention of erosion and other degrading variances which naturally

occurred in the environment.

Lastly, I expect that the course will help me understand deeper the chemistry of soil with

its composition, strength and other properties which will help me create structural design suited

to its properties.
