The Prologue

In 1997 when he was first stationed , his higher official wondered how a playful guy like him could
fight for the country. He didnt know what the young soldier was going to do for his country
This is the story of Captain Vikram Batra . His story of bravery and patriotism is a true inspiration
for every Indian soldier
When i first read the book in 2018, i didnt know how much inspirational this story was going to be.
After joining the army in december 1997, he was admitted into 13 JAK Rifles Battalion
in 1999 april, The team, after completing its counter intergency operations tenure in kashmir,
received orders to proceed top shahjahanpur Uttarpradesh. On june 5, the deployment orders were
changed and the battalion received orders to move to Drass

The Kargil War

The Pakistani forces attacked the indian base at Ghumri, Drass. Major Ajay Jasrotia, a comrade of
vikram died in the attack
13 jak rif had taken over from 2nd rajputana rif .
Its first mission was to capture Point 5140
“Keep your graves dug and ready, because we are getting the funeral cloth(Indian flag) along” he
said to his enemy over radio. He killed three pakistani soldiers in close combat. On the morning of
5th July, point 5140 had been captured. After winning the battle, he sent a success signal to his base,
“Yeh Dil Maange More” (this heart wants more!)
Pakistan refused to take the dead bodies of the deceased soldiers. Hence, as a humanitarian gesture,
the Indian Army decided to respectfully bury the bodies in accordance with holy Islamic rites.
With this vicory , came another challenge , recapturing Point 4875.

Yeh Dil Maange More

This was the toughest peak to recapture. On july 6-7 the Battalion attacked Point 4875 which
controlled nearly 70 km radius area of Indian Territory. In the attack, Captain Batra realised that one
of his soldiers was shot and while rescuing him, Vikram was shot by an enemy sniper and then he
got hit by a splinter from an RPG which hit him in the head. He collapsed saying “Durga Mata Ki
Jai!”

The Epilogue

Indian flag in victory or return wrapped in it”. He didnt break his promise. He was
awarded the param vir chakra, India’s Highest Military honour for his bravery in the Kargil
