- Wear the prescribed outfit and gloves.
- Make sure that the engine is turned off and cold.
- Open the car’s under hood and find the dipstick.
- Pull the dipstick out from the engine and wipe away any oil from its
end with a rag.
- Insert the dipstick back to its tube and push it all the way back in.
- Pull it back out and look at both sides of the dipstick to check if
the oil is above or below the minimum mark.
- Check also the oil’s color and consistency.
- Wipe off the dipstick again, insert it back to its tube and make sure
it is fully sealed and close the hood.
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION FOR THE ASSESSOR

Unit of

Competency

1. Group the candidate by two’s. Each candidate shall be rated individually

2. Prepare tools and materials related to Driving. Instruct the candidates to perform
the following tasks within (2) hours.
A. Check Engine Oil

1. Wear the prescribed outfit and gloves.


2. Make sure that the engine is turned off and cold.
**Note: Some manufacturers recommends the oil be checked after the
engine has been warmed-up. Refer first to the manufacturer’s manual.
3. Open the car’s underhood and find the dipstick.
4. Pull the dipstick out from the engine and wipe away any oil off
from its end with the rag.
5. Insert the dipstick back to its tube and push it all way back in.
6. Pull it back out and look at both sides of the dipstick to check if
the oil is still above or below the minimum mark.
**Note: If oil is still above minimum mark, follow step number 8. But
if the oil is below minimum mark, you have to refill it.
7. Check the oil’s color and consistency.
**Note: Oils’ color should appear brown or black but if it has a light
or milky appearance this could mean coolant is leaking into the
engine. If observed, call attention of the trainer as this could mean
the engine should be checked by an automechanic.
8. Wipe off the dipstick again, insert it back to its tube and make sure
it’s fully seated and close the hood.

B. Refill Engine Oil

1. Remove the oil filler cap, it is usually located on top of the engine.
2. Put the funnel and Start Refilling.
**Note: Use the grade of oil recommended in the manufacturer’s
manual. Add oil a little at a time to avoid over-filling and spilling.
3. Wait a minute or so and check with the dipstick again. If the oil
level is still below the minimum mark, add more oil. If the oil level is
okay, proceed to step number 4.
4. Put the oil filler cap back securely and close the hood.

3. Assessment shall be based on the suits of competency in the Training


Regulations and Evidence Plan and shall focus on the evidence gathering
method below;

4. At the end of the assessment, you shall provide the candidate feedback on
the assessment results. The feedback shall indicate whether the
