STEAM CELL
Get to Know Stem Cells Further

The cell itself is the smallest particle in the structural and functional life of man. The human
body consists of organ systems formed by tissues, while cells are tissue shapers themselves as
the basic constituents of the human body. Cells are in charge of regulating and processing all the
information that enters the body, so that the body can perform its functions properly.

While stem cells can be referred to as the "factory" of any cells in the human body. Because of
its function as a "cell factory", this function is then used by the medical world to cure various
diseases by conducting therapies that can create new tissues, organs, and cells in the body. Stem
cell therapy itself allows participants to recover from their illness.

How Important Is Stem Cell?

Stem cells certainly have an important role in the body, because they will be active when there
are cells in the body that have malfunction. When this happens, stem cells are tasked with
replacing them with new cells. It can be said that if stem cells are the guarantors, it must be the
replacement of new cells, if there are cells in the body that are damaged.

This can be seen from the skin surface cells that have a short life span. When a person has a
wound, the cells on the skin will die faster. Well, stem cells are the ones in charge of forming
new layers of skin that will later close the wound.

How is the stem cell mechanism performed?

Stem cell therapy is carried out conditionally; a person must have an umbilical cord that is still
stored from his birth. It is the cells of this umbilical cord that are used as a source of stem cells.
If the umbilical cord is gone, another way is to find a suitable umbilical cord donor .

Its own storage cannot be done carelessly to avoid cell death. Although it is said to be effective
in curing various diseases, so far cost is still an obstacle in carrying out stem cell therapy. How
not, every single stem cell is priced at a fantastic price, which is Rp. 1-1.5 per cell. Looks cheap,
indeed. However, the cells needed can reach up to hundreds of millions of cells.

Stem cell is a method that is still very controversial in Indonesia. Even so, several major hospitals
already provide this service. For more details about the stem cell mechanism,
