Euthanasia mercy killing, also referred to as the "good death", is an act of ending one's life
through a painless death to end their suffering from a serious illness, but can we really refer to
this as "a good death"? Today, we will be debating about this issue. We, from the opposing
team will be presenting our argument and reasons why we are against this issue.

First and foremost, we believe that life is very valuable. Well yes, "death is a natural part of life"
but that doesn't give us the right to interfere with the process. And euthanasia is allowing us to
violate that. We disagree because if this act will be considered as a law, then we are like
promoting and normalizing killings or suicide. Come to think of it, we are trying to prevent cases
of suicide but on the other side, promoting euthanasia, which is basically an act of ending one's
life. We beg to disagree with it because people or the patients who will have to decide will be
put under a great pressure. They'll start thinking that they have to volunteer because they need
to. They are probably thinking that they were becoming burdens to their family, which they do
not want to be. To be honest, it's not about the pain, the illness in question here anymore. They
are forcing themselves to make the decision thinking that it would lessen their family’s burden,
especially the poor ones who have to deal with poverty and faces financial problems. Instead of
fighting to survive, euthanasia is just giving them an option to give up.

And as for patients who are unable to decide for themselves because of some circumstances,
their family members will have to decide, which is again inappropriate. Why would you make
decision for someone who is in unstable state? You don't know what that person is thinking.
There is a great chance of possibility that he is striving, he is fighting for his life. Why would you
end that urge?! What we need to show those patients is care, hope, and companion, not pity,
not mercy. Once they see that, they'll be able to realize that they don't actually want to die.

In conclusion to our overall statement, euthanasia should not be put into law because it
violates moral and ethics of human life. We have the right to live, don't let anyone invalidate
that. Don't let the patients think that they are burdens, instead, motivate them to keep on
living, show them the beauty of life. To convince you into joining us to oppose with this topic,
we provide one last reason; to use the alternative. We call this the palliative care. Just like us,
the goal of palliative care is to improve the quality of life. We don't have to worry about
whether it is effective or not because it is provided by specially trained doctors, nurses, and
other specialists to make sure it is done with extra care and support. They help in relieving
symptoms and stress brought by the illness. Currently in the Philippines, we have 34
organizations providing 108 hospice and palliative care services. If we are to establish more
palliative cares, we will be able to help more patients and won't need euthanasia anymore. We
are finishing our statement with that. I hope we are able to point out our idea and views.
INTRODUCTION Good afternoon ma'am and to everyone. Ladies and gentlemen, I am (name) of
the opposing team and I thank you all for taking your time to witness our debate. I would like to
begin my speech by saying that me and my team members are strongly against euthanasia
mercy killing.
We believe that every life is precious, hence, they should be valued and protected, not
discarded. Would you bear seeing your loved ones die for the sake of your financial burden?
Because I could never. Mahirap humanap ng pera, pero mas mahirap mawalan ng mahal sa
buhay dahil sa pera. And that explains why I strongly disagree. To explore our point of view
better, I am allowing my group members to further explain the reason why we are opposing to
this argument.

BODY
Ladies and Gentlemen, for your information, active euthanasia is illegal in the Philippines
because we are living in a religious country where we have values and faith. But even if not for
that reason, I will still proudly say that I am against mercy killing. Because if we are to legalize
euthanasia, it's like we are encouraging suicide. Kung titignan natin nang mabuti, walang
pinagkaiba ang euthanasia sa suicide. Mercy killing is proposed to end the suffering of people
with serious illness. It is basically the same reason why people people commit suicide. They
commit suicide by choice, because they want to end their sufferings. How ironic kasi we are
trying to prevent cases of suicide but on the other side, you want euthanasia to be legalised.
lang nung pressure na nararamdaman nila like in terms of financial problems.
According nga dun sa sinabi niya, yung euthanasia, it puts pressure on the patient.
They are making rash decisions of ending their life not because of their illness, not because of
the pain they are feeling anymore, but because of the burden their families have to carry on.
They are worried that they will just become a burden if they continue to live on, so instead of
fighting, they are losing their confidence to go on. They become hopeless. Kaya kapag
isinabatas natin ang euthanasia o mercy killing, parang tinatanggalan natin sila ng pag-asa na
magpatuloy. We are ending their will to live, their urge to survive.

CONCLUSION To sum up everything, euthanasia should not be put into law because it violates
moral and ethics of human life. What every patient need is hope and companion, not pity.
So, instead of having euthanasia, we recommend palliative
care. Just like us from the opposing side, ang goal ng palliative care is to improve the quality of
life. It is provided by specially-trained doctors, nurses, and other specialists that will help relieve
symptoms and stress brought by the illness. Currently, dito sa bansa, meron tayong 34
organizations providing 108 hospice and palliative care services. Kaya naman instead of
legalising euthanasia, what we should do is to establish more palliative cares so that we can
lessen the burden of both the patient and their family. And by that, we have finished our
presentation and I am confident to say that we have said everything we wanted to pointed out.
