Introduction:-
Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) is a community based functionary.
ASHA is trained community based link worker & Acts as bridge between the Government
functionaries and Tribal & Non-tribal population who find it difficult to access the health
services.
ASHA is a first port of call for any health related demands of the community.
Selection of ASHA:-
Tribal Area :-
One ASHA per 1000 population.
ASHA is primary resident of village with formal education up to class 8th in Tribal.
As per guidelines, Gramsabha or VHNSC will recommend five names of suitable candidates
Taluka Health Officer will select one lady as ASHA amongst these shortlisted candidates.

Non-Tribal Area :-
One ASHA per 1500 population.
ASHA is primary resident of village with formal education up to class 10th in non-tribal in the
Selection Procedure :-
Gramsabha will select one lady as ASHA amongst these shortlisted candidates.
State, District & Taluka Mentoring Committees are being constituted for supporting ASHAs.
Incentive to ASHA :-
ASHA will be provided performance based compensation as per amount fixed for each
completed activity.

ASHA provides performance based compensation to ASHA through PHCs during monthly
orientation.
Total performance of ASHA during month is recorded in one register and ASHA is paid based on
this record.
Compensation required for each service provided will be made through the funds of respective
ASHA Incentives:-
7 Control of epidemic (outbreak) Rs. 100/- for giving first hand information of outbreak
