Round Table
DIALOGUE WITH UKRAINE

Now it’s almost one year since the beginning of full-scale Russian military aggression
against Ukraine. In order to understand the roots of this war the Embassy of Ukraine
in the Republic of India (concurrently in Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal and Sri lanka) in
partnership with Nepal Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement
(NIICE); Sri Lanka Rainbow Institute of Communication and Sri Lanka Centre for
Policy Alternatives is arranging Round Table discussion “DIALOGUE WITH
UKRAINE”. Our aim is to start in-depth reflections on the matter with the countries of
Global South.

“You have to know the past to understand the present” – Carl Edward Sagan.

Speakers and topics:

1. Dr. MRIDULA GHOSH: Senior Lecturer, Dept. of International Relations, National


University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy"; Board Chair, East European Development
Institute.
Topic: “Postcoloniality of Ukraine and understanding politics of memory in
its history, focusing on language and Holodomor” – the manmade Great
Famine in Ukraine of 1932-1933”.

2. Dr. ANASTASIA PILIAVSKY: Social anthropologist; Senior Lecturer in


Anthropology and Politics at the India Institute at King's College London.
Topic: “Ukraine’s and India’s famines and the fall of the empires”.

3. Dr. ROHINI HENSMAN: Writer, independent scholar and activist working on


workers' rights, feminism, minority rights and globalization.
Topic: “Why has a large section of anti-imperialists not shown solidarity with
Ukrainians?” (along the lines of Her book “Indefensible: Democracy,
Counterrevolution, and the Rhetoric of Anti-Imperialism”, 2018).

4. Partner Institutions input to the discussion.

15 minutes for each speaker presentation; Q&A session; partner institutions
contribution; discussion.
