Global South Summit

➢ What: India virtually hosted the first Voice of Global South


Summit 2023. The inaugural address was delivered by Prime

Roadmap to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) held in New

City at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

➢ About Ganga Vilas

• It is a luxury cruise operated in partnership with private players


by the Inland Waterways Authority.

• It will cover 3,200 kilometres, traversing five states Uttar


Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bihar and Assam, two
countries (India and Bangladesh) in 51 days

• It will start its journey from Varanasi (UP) and make stops at
about 50 tourist and heritage sites along the Ganga and
Brahmaputra River systems.

▪ Its stops will include world heritage sites, national parks, river
ghats, and major cities like Patna, Sahibganj, Kolkata, Dhaka (in
Bangladesh) and Guwahati.

➢ Tent City at Varanasi

• Tent City has been conceptualised on the banks of River Ganga


to tap the potential of tourism in the region.

• It has been developed opposite to city ghats to provide


accommodation facilities and cater tourist influx in Varanasi,
since the inauguration of Kashi Vishwanath Dham.

• Developed by: Varanasi Development Authority in PPP mode.

• Operational Period: It will be operational from October to June


every year.
