EXPERIENCING CHRISTIAN FAITH
14/09/2022

1. WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?

- A Christian is someone who follows to Jesus Christ's teachings and who believes in him. "If
someone is in Christ, there is a new creation," the Bible declares. The phrase "the old has
gone, the new has come" refers to the fact that when we become Christians, although we may
appear to be the same on the surface, something within of us changes permanently. We have
"changed countries," "came under new ownership," or "been born again," to use a few
metaphors. Christians hold that when everyone is born, God sends his Holy Spirit to dwell
within them.

2. BELIEFS (MGA PANINIWALA)

 God - The Bible serves as the foundation for Christian beliefs. Christians believe in a
single God, whom they refer to as Father, as taught by Jesus Christ.

 Jesus - Christians acknowledge Jesus as God's Son, sent to redeem people from death
and sin. Jesus Christ claimed to be the Son of God. His teachings can be summed up
in two words: love of God and love of one's neighbor. Jesus declared that he had
come to fulfill God's law, not to teach it.

 Faith-based justification - Christians hold that by their trust in Jesus as the Son of
God, as well as in his death and resurrection, they can establish a proper relationship
with God, whose forgiveness was made permanent via the death of Jesus Christ. This
doctrine is known as justification by faith.

 The Trinity - Christians acknowledge the existence of God as Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit, or the Trinity. Some people misunderstand this and believe that Christians
believe in three different gods, which is false. Christians hold that God manifested
himself in the person of Jesus Christ, and that God is still active in the world today
via the work of the Holy Spirit and in the deeds of believers.

 Life after death - Christian doctrine holds that there is life after death. Christians
think that numerous spiritual experiences in this life contribute to give people some
notion of what everlasting life will be like, despite the fact that the true nature of this
life is unknown.

 Those Saints - Nowadays, the term "saint" is most frequently used to describe a
Christian who led an exceptionally excellent and holy life on earth and is said to have
performed miracles after their passing. The Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches
bestow the formal title of Saint through a procedure known as canonization.
Members of these Churches also hold that such Saints are capable of praying to God
on behalf of those who are still alive today. The majority of Protestants do not agree
with this. However, the word saint is used throughout the Bible to describe anybody
who is a devoted follower of Christ, particularly by St. Paul in the New Testament
(e.g. Ephesians 1.1. and 1.15).

 Prayer - Christian's interaction with God is done through prayer. According to the
New Testament, Jesus urged his followers to refer to God as their Father and taught
them how to pray. Christians think they are carrying on this legacy. The prayers can
occasionally be formal and follow a tradition that dates back hundreds of years.
Others are spontaneous and individualized and stem from individual or collective
need. While Jesus taught that prayer is frequently addressed to God as Father, certain
traditions promote praying to God through representatives like saints and martyrs.
Some churches place great emphasis on and make traditional use of prayers made
through Mary as the mother of God.

 The Church - For believers, the Christian church is essential. Although it has
numerous flaws, it is acknowledged as God's physical presence on earth. The church
is the setting where the Christian faith is fostered and the earthly manifestation of the
Holy Spirit takes place. It is the place where new Christians are initiated into the
religion and where the Eucharist unites them as one body.

 Baptism - Whether one is baptized as a newborn or an adult, the Christian church

views baptism as an external expression of an inner commitment to Jesus' teachings.

 Eucharist - Greek term for thanksgiving is eucharist. Its observance is to recall the
last meal Jesus shared with his apostles prior to his death (the Last Supper). This
custom is based on what Jesus did at that dinner when he gave his followers bread
and wine and instructed them to partake in both in remembrance of him.

3. FAITH (PAGTITIWALA O PANANAMPALATAYA)

- "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." (Hebrews
11:1). A word that is frequently used but not always understood is "faith." According to a
well-known Bible teacher, saving faith is nothing more than confidence in the divine offer of
eternal life. However, according to Scripture, the object of faith is not the divine offer but the
Person of Jesus Christ. Faith in Him is what saves, not just believing His promises or
accepting facts about Him. Saving faith has to be more than accepting facts. Even demons
have faith, but they don't believe the truths that they are told (James 2:19).

 FAITH AS TRUST - Although they may be similar in certain ways, faith and trust
are not the same thing. We put our faith in God because we know he is trustworthy.
We have faith in him because we think he has the ability to fulfill his promises. We
believe in him because of who he is and what his words and deeds have said about
him. We rely on him since we think he is completely trustworthy. Between behavior
based on faith and the thing in which faith is placed, there may be a subtle difference
between faith and trust. Faith is the "soil of things hoped for, the proof of things not
seen," according to the writer of Hebrews (Heb. 11:1). Now faith is the title-deed to
things hoped for; the putting to proof of things not seen (RSV); "Now faith means we
are confident of what we hope for" (Phillips); "But faith forms a solid ground for
what is hoped for, a conviction of unseen realities" (Berkeley); "Now faith is the title-
deed to things hoped for; the putting to proof of things not seen" (Weymouth);
(Moffatt). We gain a clear understanding of the definition of faith from these and
other translations. Trust is therefore, in a very real sense, the application of faith. Its
acceptance in favor of human reason is the antithesis of faith based on the revelation
of God. We now have a letter that attacks the reliability and authority of the Bible.
"Our judgment on these matters we must make for ourselves, and there is no finality,
no authority, to which we have recourse other than an honest evaluation of our own
experience, and knowledge," the author writes in the article.

 FAITH AS BELIEF - Faith is described as a belief in or confident attitude toward

God, involving dedication to his will for one's life, in Nelson's Bible Dictionary.
Nelson adds that having faith in God's truth is what it means to believe. A person
who believes takes God at his word and puts their faith in him to save them.

4. EXPERIENCE

- To be honest, I don't have more knowledge and experience about being a Christian. Since my
family is catholic and I currently under the study of my Auntie, which is her religion is Saksi
ni Jehova. It is funny to think that my previous schools and now, my current is Christian and I
am still not a Christian. But my school welcomed not only me but also other students who
have other religion with all their respect. On the other hand, I have enough knowledge and
connection about God. From my own perspective, patay ang pananampalataya, kapag walang
gawa. We cannot have faith if we do not have trust in Him. As a student and a believer, I
doubt sometimes, but I pray. Yes, I always pray to God at sa kanya lang ako laging totoo
bukod sa sarili ko. I promise to myself that no matter what happen, hinding hindi ako
magsisinungaling sa harap ng Diyos na pinaniniwalaan ko. Aware ako na hindi pa ganon
kalakas ang aking spiritual na paniniwala pero hindi ako titigil maniwala sa kanya. He always
there for me even though I cannot see Him. I am his best friend. Sa panahon na walang wala
ako, God always there for me, provided everything. He saved me many times. Alam ko yun
kase personally, kapag nakakaranas ako ng saya, lungkot, problema o kung ano man ang
nangyayari sa buhay ko, I always tell Him. Walang labis, walang kulang. I read some verses
In Isaiah 41:10, God says to “fear not, for
I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I
will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
matakot?

5. TRUTH

- Truth is defined as something which is consistent with reality or fact. Truth is not decided by
subjective judgment, public opinion, prevailing scientific theory, or any human court of law.
Truth is only what is and is rooted in the Creator and Sustainer of the cosmos, God.

6. CERTAINTY

- Lack of doubt on a situation is known as certainty. For instance, I can be considered to be

certain of the truth that the form of the earth is an oblate spheroid if I am absolutely certain
about it. Degrees are permitted by certainty just as they are permitted by doubt. The absence
of all doubt is referred to as absolute certainty. There are other degrees of relative confidence
below that. But from a biblical standpoint. In his use of scriptural language, God makes it
clear that he values certainty. Any attempt to downplay certainty or the notions it is
associated with is a blunting of Scripture's plainly stated truths.
