Airport - Aeroporto

Tip: English is the mother language in international airports. When you arrive, you will
have to read signposts , ask or answer questions in the customs, passport control, or in
the airline counters. Anyway, remember to keep documents in a safe place. In the
airports the baggage carts use to be free.

Vocabulary:
When you have to make an airplane trip the first thing you have to do is: to choose
an airline and book your ticket(s), you can only buy an one-way ticket or an
round-trip ticket. Then, you choose a seat, it may be in the window seat or in
the aisle seat.
In the departure, you need to be on time at the airport, to check-in your
luggage, and do not forget your carry-on luggage that goes with you in the
airplane! When you finish check-in, take your passport and your ticket and go to
the Departure Gate.
Before you go to the departure lounge, you have to pass through the airport
security, take off your shoes, your luggage pass by the baggage screening monitor
and the security guards may go through your belongings. But do not worry, if you
are not carrying any illegal item, soon you will be at the boarding área, where you
be able to buy many things, without worrying with the rates in the duty-free shops.
Be carefull, do not wast a lot of time! And do not miss your flight! Always look at the
departure and arrival board, pay attention on your boarding gate and your
flight number. In general, domestic flights stay apart of international flights.
In the boarding, stay with your passport and ticket. Before the plane take off, the
flight attendant will ask you to fasten your seatbelt, put your seat on the
upright position and lift your foodtray. During the flight, you may watch to a
movie and listen to music with your headphone or use the reading light to read
something.
Before your arrival, if your flight is an international flight, you will have to fill out the
Customs and Immigration form. Then, when the plane land, you will to the landing
area (arrival) to take your baggage at the bagage claim, looking in what carrousel is
your suitcase going out. This is the basic vocabulary to an air trip. Enjoy your trip!

1) Finding the right terminal
Some airports have several terminals, in which can take a while for you to get out of one
and go to another.
When leaving the flight, ask:

2) “Is this the correct terminal for my connecting flight?”

In case you need to go to another terminal, you can ask:

3) “Could you tell me where the terminal flight connection is and how long it will
take?”
Depending on the airport, this transference can be done either by bus or on foot.

4) Checking your flight time

Flight’s details can change at the last minute, so you have to make sure and confirm any
changes and delays. Upon arriving at the terminal, ask:

5) “Where are the departure/arrival boards?”

6) Finding your gate

After checking your information in the flight board, you also find the boarding gate
number. To find the location of the gate, you can follow the signs and then ask, for
example:

7) “How do I get to Gate 55?”

If you are going through a very long connection flight, you’ll have more time to get familiar
with the places in the airports. There are some sleeping areas in certain airports for
those who have been travelling for a long time. So, ask:

8) “Is there a sleeping area ?” or “Does the airport have any sleeping chairs?”

9) Luggage lockers
Ask for the luggage lockers or “lockers”.

10) Don’t be strapped for cash

ATM machines are everywhere, so you can ask: where can I find an ATM machine?

11) Stay/keep in touch

12) “Is there wi-fi?”– “What is the password?”

Grammar

Future with To Be Going To or Will

To be going to: Utiliza-se o futuro com o “going to” para expressar algo que já foi
planejado e que por isso existe a certeza de que irá acontecer.
A forma do futuro com o “going to” é dada por:
um sujeito + o presente do verbo “to be” (am, is, are) + going to + verbo principal +
complemento.
Ex: I  am  finally  going to  retire.

Para a forma negativa, basta acrescentar o “not” após o verbo “to be”.

I am not going to come for the next class. (Eu não irei vir para a próxima aula).

Are you going to recite a poem? (Você irá recitar um poema?)

Will - Quando devo usar will?

Utilizamos o “will” para exprimir uma ação futura. Também é empregado para
situações em que se concorda com algo, promete-se ou oferece-se alguma coisa.
Use will + infinitivo sem to (will go, will study, will meet, will rain) para:

● expressar o futuro;
● expressar uma decisão ou intenção, geralmente feita no momento da fala;
● expressar prontidão, boa vontade, disposição para fazer algo ou ajudar alguém.

Não use will para coisas que já foram planejadas, marcadas, organizadas, com
antecedência. Nesses casos, use be + going to

Formas:

Affirmative: I/ you / he / she / it / we / they will travel

Negative: I / you / he / she / it / we / they will not travel or won’t travel

Interrogative: Will I / you / he / she / it / we / they travel ?

INDIRECT QUESTION

Indirect question is when we have a question inside another question, but with a
structure of an affirmative sentence. We use indirect questions to ask for information
or ask a polite question. We find two sentences in the same statement. The question
itself is contained within another structure, which can be:
● An affirmative sentence:

Ex: Where does Mary live?

Ex: I would like to know where Mary lives.
● Another question:

Ex: How much does this laptop cost?

Ex: Can you tell me how much this laptop cost?
