WEEK 7
FRAMEWORKS AND PRINCIPLES BEHIND OUR MORAL
DISPOSITION FRAMEWORKS

Introduction

. This is all about the various approaches or philosophy as frameworks and

principles behind our moral disposition frameworks, situations of every philosophy and
the frameworks and principles behind every philosophy.

Pre-competency Checklist

Activity 1:
a. Brainstorming: Which do you prefer; to live happily even you violate somebody’s
right or to live righteously even you are not happy since it is a sense of duty?
Answer:
TO LIVE RIGHTEOUSLY, EVEN IF IT MAKES ME UNHAPPY, IS A SENSE OF
DUTY. We are obliged to follow the commandments or the law which lead us into
righteous ways even its very hard to obey but it is about our duty to do so. Our purpose
in life is to love and serve others, and no matter what happens, We will live calmly and
in accordance with God's will.

Discussion Board

1. What are the principles and frameworks of ethicism, utilitarianism, kantianism?

Answer:
Utilitarianism is an ethical theory that determines right from wrong
by focusing on outcomes. Utilitarianism holds that the most ethical
choice is the one that will produce the greatest good for the greatest
number. It is the only moral framework that can be used to justify
military force or war.
Kantian ethics refers to a deontological ethical theory developed
by German philosopher Immanuel Kant that is based on the notion that:
"It is impossible to think of anything at all in the world, or indeed even
beyond it, that could be considered good without limitation except a
good will."
An ethical framework is a set of codes that an individual uses to
guide his or her behavior. Ethics are what people use to distinguish right
from wrong in the way they interact with the world.

2. How are they differ from one another?

Answer: In other words: for utilitarianism, an action is right if and only if it
produces the best possible consequences; for Kant, an action is morally
good if it is determined by a principle of pure reason, irrespective of the
consequences.

3. What are situations/dilemma that challenge each philosophy?

Cephalus defines ‘justice’ as speaking the truth and paying one’s debts.
Socrates quickly refutes this account by suggesting that it would be wrong to
repay certain debts—for example, to return a borrowed weapon to a friend
who is not in his right mind. Socrates’ point is not that repaying debts is
without moral import; rather, he wants to show that it is not always right to
repay one’s debts, at least not exactly when the one to whom the debt is owed
demands repayment. What we have here is a conflict between two moral
norms: repaying one’s debts and protecting others from harm. And in this
case, Socrates maintains that protecting others from harm is the norm that
takes priority.

1. Why do we need principles and frameworks in any moral decision making?

Answer: Through following the instructions given, we need to walk in the right way
which lead us into a better human being, we need to decide in good moral rather than
for the unnecessarily practices, we need also to listen of what we hear morally because
it reflects as a pattern in our result to our worth living. The virtues are one way to
develop our behavior and attitude individually it makes transform our capacity of
rationality. This principles guide as accordingly to the societies needed. We need to
detach our own desires which cause conflict in every side, instead uplifting our mind
and heart to carry into genuine responsibility as a high race creatures.
