Fence cut on Lauriston Farm EH4 5EX

Lauriston Farm was gifted to the people of

Scotland along with Lauriston Castle. It is
now being developed as an urban food
production and community hub that
benefits, supports and regenerates the
environment and all those connected to it.

It comprises 100 acres of farmland, and

allotments, a market garden, food growing
area, orchard, woodland and wildlife areas
are being put in place. It is welcomed by the
local community, and is well used by locals
for walking and dog-walking, who receive a
welcome.

However, some restrictions are necessary in food growing and wildlife areas for obvious reasons – and as a
condition of the lease on the farm.

Signs requesting that people respect this were simply torn down, and ignored by a minority. Attempts to
block a footpath through the areas by planting trees and erecting barriers (with large fenceposts and pallets)
were simply torn down in summer 2022.

Fences were erected in November 2022 and signs reposted explaining that although
most of the farm is open access, some areas need to be off limits. The signs were
immediately torn down. Gates into the fields were simply used for access. Locks put
on gates were cut (heavy duty locks have replaced them).

Now a section of the fence has been deliberately cut, which constitutes criminal damage.

I can provide photos and a written report. Police incident number PS-20230127-2350.
