Los Verbos
 The verb is the most important part of a
sentence.
 Without it a sentence cannot stand.
 Some verbs alone can be considered as
a sentence such as Think! Look! Stop!
Listen! And it is the same in Spanish.
Los Verbos
 In Spanish, verbs are conjugated
according to a definite pattern.
 They follow the sequence of the personal
subject pronouns such as Yo (I), Tú (you),
Él/Ella (he/she), Nosotros/as (we),
Vosotros/as (all of you) and Ellos/Ellas
(They).
Los Verbos Infinitivos
 Allinfinitive verb forms in Spanish end in
either ar, er or ir.

 These infinitive forms are equivalent to

“to” plus a verb in English such as amar =
to love, comer = to eat and subir = to go
up/climb.
Verb Endings in Spanish
1) Verbs of the First Conjugation = those
that end in “AR” such as comprar and
amar.
2) Verbs of the Second Conjugation = those
that end in “ER” such as correr and barrer.

3) Verbs of the Third Conjugation = those

that end in “IR” such as vivir and admitir.
Partes del Verbo Español
 1) Root/Stem = the part that remains the
same after the ending is taken out.
 2) Ending = the part of the verb which
changes during the course of
conjugation.
cantar = cant (root) + ar (ending)
leer = le (root) + er (ending)
admitir = admit (root) + ir (ending)
Tipos de Verbos
1. Regular = when only the endings of
infinitive verbs change.

2. Irregular = when there are also changes in

the root of infinitive verbs.
