III. ANALYSIS
Teacher from National Institute of Blinds reported that Harish is very social child, he enjoy the company of his
peer and his juniors from school. He likes to study and enjoys the activities that happen in the school. He do
some of the activities in the school including writing, reading, participated in morning assembly, do lunch with
other kids and also enjoys some others activities. He is not loud and his voice is also not clear.
He studied with other children and work hard to remember things, but his teacher and parents were not able to
help him much due to his inability to learn and remember things. They would make him learn but next moment
he would be totally blank. He only remember things from past memory before the accident was about to
happen. It was very frustrating for the teachers and the parents since their efforts were all going down to drain.
Because of his condition, his parents were shifted near the school (NAB, Haldwani). At NAB his teachers spend a
lot of time with him, because at NAB, the teachers are specially trained to take care of these blind children. The
teachers repeat the same thing to the children, again and again. They do not pressurize him to learn and
remember too many things at the same time. They allow the child to learn at his own pace so that he does not
get stressed. Also a positive re-enforcement is given to him at regular intervals, so that he feels encouraged to
learn. Whenever he is able to memorize he is given a reward in the form of anything like some praise or a
sweet. This greatly boosts his morale and he takes even more interest in his work.
IV. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
Harish has joined NAB, Haldwani in 2017. In one year he has shown interest in writing and reading and doing
other activities. He was trying to learn and study and somehow able to write Braille English and Hindi words.
He is doing better at both languages Hindi and English and he also learns to write mathematics. He knows
names of animals, days of the week, months of the year, people at work etc. But he can write these things only
when some hint is provided. He is able to write some words but cannot frame sentences. He can tell about
himself and his family. He cannot interact clearly with others because he cannot speak properly.
The teacher is going slowly with him so that he is able to learn only few things and memorize them well. Along
with this he is also taught names of common things which one uses in day to day life. According to the teacher, Harish is a
very sensitive person and feels very hurt if scolded or ridiculed. So the only mantra that works with him is love
and patience. The parents also have a very positive attitude towards the child. He takes keen interest in all the
activities of the school which he is able to perform and makes sure that the child keeps abreast of all that is
being done there. Teachers and his parents provide full help and support to him. This is evident
from some notebook in which he wrote. The father and mother also take interest in all his activities. The
parents want that the child should become independent in life and would make their child do some vocational
course or training so that he is able to earn his livelihood easily even when they might not be around.
V. CONCLUSION
Harish is an adult by age but child by mentally, does suffer from a number of disabilities like learning disability,
blindness, speech problem which we label as executive functioning wherein a child forgets as soon as he learns.
This condition is definitely very restricting as he is not in a position to equal other even though the I.Q. level
may not be poor. Such a child needs repetition of the content which is taught again and again. He cannot retain
what he has learnt yesterday and for a long period of time. In such a situation the teacher and parents have to
be patient with him and have to devote time with him so that he revises again and again so as to memorize well.
Again here scolding and reprimanding will not help as he will only get demoralized as he is already trying his
level best and cannot do better than that.
