1) Finished actions :

- e.g. l knew Shelly for ten years (but


then she moved away and we
lost touch).
PAST SIMPLE :-

2) A finished action in someone's life


(when the person is dead) :

- e.g. My great-grandmother
went to Mexico three times.
PAST SIMPLE :-

3) A finished action with no result


in the present :

- e.g. I lost my keys yesterday.


It was terrible! (Now there is no
result. I got new keys yesterday).

PAST SIMPLE :-

4) With a finished word (last week,


last month, yesterday) :

- e.g. I saw William last week.


PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE :-

1) Unfinished actions that started in


the past & continue to the present :

- e.g. I have known Ruby


for ten years (and I still know her).
PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE :-

2) A finished action in someone's life (when


the person is still alive) :

- e.g. My brother has been to


Canada three times.
PRESENT PERFECT SIMPLE :-

3) A finished action with a result


in the present :

- e.g. I have lost my keys! (The result


is that I can't get into my
