Community) is a co-housing residence in which the residents have their own house or flat, but they share many things such as the laundry, the garden, tools…
The Collective is based in North London, it’s an
organisation which manages a co-housing community made up of activities absolutely crazy : 550 rather small bedrooms, a spa, a library, a game room, a cinema room, even a roof terrace with igloos to chill out in ! People have their own room but share the communal kitchen on each floor or the laundry for example.
Beddington Zero Energy Development (BZED) is
a co-housing project, a sustainable community located in South London, the aim of his project is to reduce the electricity consumption, have a positive impact on the environment and improve the comfort of their home. Something makes all projects innovative, they allow us to save resources on our planet, to reduce the pollution and to consume less energy, electricity, even water…
Each co-housing we saw have a lot of common
points and differences : concerning the common points, all three have bedrooms for all residents who live there. They offer so many activities to relax and entertain people such as communal kitchens, gardens, cinema rooms etcetera… But every three also have differences, they don’t have the same style of bedroom. Indeed, Beddington Zero Energy Development doesn’t have lights in the bedrooms, it permits to reduce the consumption of electricity ! Same thing for the activities they propose, for example The Collective is aimed principally on young people, so it absolutely needs activities like a spa, a library for studying or a game room.
Those projects of co-housing are really
appealing, but one, in my perspective, is more interesting. I’m dealing with The Collective : that’s the most attractive co-housing project we have seen ! It’s the one who interests me the most because I’m very keen on the idea of having a cinema, a game room or igloos in which we can chill out. Moreover, the library can be very useful to work with friends ! I wouldn't be caught dead than live in the other two...
Although co-housing is a good project for the
planet, however it has cons which can be pretty annoying, the noise principally, fitting in with other residents is sometimes difficult if there is not a good agreement between people, even the obligation to participate in the domestic duties. Pros could be meeting new friends, sharing rental costs, helping each other for studying, cooking, working… It can be very useful !
At last, we can conclude that co-housing is a
great way to save money or meet friends. In addition, people who live alone could live in co-housing to allow them to be with people.
