AUTOLYSER INSTALLATION

INSTALLATION OF THE OPERATING PROGRAM


& SYSTEM CONFIGURATION

The following instructions apply to all Autolysers, either if supplied with


the external PC or without it.

For analyzers with brand new PC, follow all instructions in Section 2.
For analyzers already supplied with the PC or in case of software
updates, follow instructions in Section 3.
Section 1: Overview of the Installation disk functions
Insert the CD-ROM containing the operating program of the analyzer in the CD-ROM drive.
The following screen appears:

Install USB Drivers


Installs the drivers of the USB module for communication with the analyzer.
This operation is necessary only if the PC is totally new (not for those supplied by the
manufacturer together with the analyzer) and it MUST be performed before the
installation of the operative program (DO NOT CONNECT THE ANALYZER TO THE
PC BEFORE HAVING PERFORMED THIS OPERATION).
Install Software
Installs the operative program software.
Import Configuration
Restores the analyzer configuration supplied by the manufacturer on an external
device (USB pendrive). This operation is necessary only if the PC is totally new (not
for those supplied by the manufacturer together with the analyzer) – This procedure
MUST be performed when the operative program is not running.
Exit to Windows
Terminates the installation program and goes back to Windows. If one of the
preceding functions has been successfully performed, the program will ask if the
operator wants to re-boot the PC.
Note: The autorun module will not automatically close at the end of one of the above
mentioned functions, to allow the operator to perform all the necessary operations before
re-booting the PC.

NOTES:
Whichever PC or operative system you have, the next instructions must be followed.
- stand-by: the energy saving mode must be disabled
- the UAC must be disabled
- the access to the operative system must always be in administrator mode
- Windows firewall must be disabled
- system characters must be in standard format (96 dpi)
- the energy saving stand by mode due to the closing of the PC cover must be disabled
Section 2: analyzers supplied without PC

1. General information and settings


1.1. Requirements:
Operative systems: Windows XP professional (32 bit), Windows 2000 professional,
Windows Vista home edition or professional (32 bit), Windows 7 (32 bit).
The operative system must be correctly installed and activated, and the user must
have the administrator privileges.

1.2. Disable PC functions


Before performing any operation with the analyzer and the PC, please read this
instructions and keep the PC/OS user manual close in case of need.
It is necessary to disable the following functions in order to prevent the system
from blocking some functions or interrupting the communication with the
analyzer.

ATTENTION: all the below instructions definition (sentences in the menus) may
change due to the operative system, installed service pack or the kind of PC used.
Please, refer always to the PC/OS instructions manual.

1.2.1. Disable UAC


The UAC is the user access control introduced by Microsoft with Windows Vista. It
may happen that the system may block or prevent some functions if the UAC is
enabled.

1.2.2. Disable Stand-by and Suspend


Stand-by and Suspend modes must be inactive, otherwise the communication via
USB with the analyzer will be interrupted.

1.2.3. Set the taskbar
This setting is necessary to view the operative program in full screen size.

1.2.4. Disable the Stand-by mode when closing the lid

This operation must follow the "Disable Stand-by and Suspend" and must be followed
by the procedure "Disable Stand-by on USB".

Click on the Start button
Select control panel
Select “Power options”
Go to “Advanced options”
Expand “Sleep” and then expand “Hybernate after”
Set the “Setting (Minutes)” to “Never”.
Under “Allow hybrid sleep”, set Setting to “Off”.
Click on OK.

1.2.5. Disable Stand-by on USB


This procedure must be performed only after having accomplished to point 1.2.4.

Click on the Start button
Select control panel
Select “Power options”
Go to “Advanced options”
Select “Hardware and Sound”
Click on “Energy saving options”
Select “Change computer suspend settings”
Click on “Advanced Options”
Expand the section “USB setting”
Expand the section “USB selective suspend setting”
Set all options to "Disabled"

2. Installing the drivers and the operative program.


2.1. Installing the drivers
Before operating the system, it is necessary to allow the PC to communicate with the
analyzer and to install the operative program.
First of all the necessary drivers for communication must be installed on the PC.
Insert the CD-ROM containing the operating program of the analyzer in the CD-ROM drive.
The following screen appears:

Installs the drivers of the USB module for communication with the analyzer.
This operation MUST be performed before the installation of the operative program
and before connecting the analyzer to the PC.

Now connect the analyzer to the PC via USB cable.


Then it is necessary to install the Operative Program Software.
2.2. Installing the operative program

NOTE: before installing the operative program, make sure that on the PC
there is already installed at least a default printer.
PRINTER INSTALLATION
Open the Printers window (=> Start button => Settings => Printers) and click on “New
Printer”, then follow the instructions. Otherwise, insert the printer’s installation disk into the
driver and follow the printer’s setup instructions.

Make sure that the CD-ROM containing the operating program of the analyzer is still in the
CD-ROM drive. If not, insert the disk and wait until the window shown in fig. 1 appears.

Click on Install Software.

Now the installation procedure begins, which will


guide the user during operating program installation.

Click “NEXT”.

The installation procedure automatically checks the


communication port (COM) used for communication
with the 552. In case the communication port is not
found (cable disconnected, no processor, etc.), the
following screen "Select communication port" will
appear:
Here the operator will manually select the Com port
used for communication (normally "Com4" is utilized).
Select Com4 and click “Accept”. Now the installation
of operating programs begins.

CAUTION:
DO NOT INTERRUPT THE ONGOING INSTALLATION, UNLESS FOR SERIOUS REASONS.

After the end of this phase, before re-booting the


system, it is possible to perform one of the other
operations described in Section 1.
Once finished, select "Yes, I want to restart my
computer now".

Now the operating program has been installed correctly in the system.
2.3. Installing the analyzer configuration
All analyzer settings have already been performed in factory. Mechanical calibrations, FCC
and other settings have been saved into a USB pen drive, and must be imported into the
analyzer's new PC in order to make the instrument ready to use.
Insert the USB pen drive into the PC. Double click on the file Configuration.exe and the
following window will appear.

Click on the button "Restore". At the question "Are you sure to overwrite the actual
configuration?" answer "Yes"
Let the PC load the configuration.
Now it is possible to start the analyzer operative program.

2.4. Start the analyzer


To start the analyzer program, click on the "Start" button and select the "Operative" icon.
The analyzer program will start loading and at the end will perform the auto-diagnosis of the
system.
Now it will be necessary to set the operators' passwords as described in the Operator
manual.
Before operating the analyzer it is mandatory to perform a " Lamp Setup" (Utility menu) in
order to initialize the optical transmission storage file.

Section 3: analyzers supplied with PC


All analyzers supplied with PC by Biotecnica need only to be connected to the PC and to be
started. All necessary settings have been performed in factory.
To connect the PC to the analyzer, use the supplied USB cable. Then start the PC and turn
the analyzer ON. Once the Operative System has been loaded, press the "Start" button and
select the "Operative" icon. The analyzer operative program will start.
In case of software update, follow instructions in Section 2, par. 2.2.
Section 4: Datawatch UPSMAN Windows control software installation.
To install the Upsman program it is necessary to have an updated disk.
If your PC has Windows 7 as Operative System and/or the updated CD is not available, it
will be possible to download the program directly from the UPS manufacturer's site.
On March 2010 it has been released the 5.7.73 version of the file upswincd.zip, which is
available at the following address: http://www.online-ups.it/download.php (Software
Datawatch UPSMAN Windows).

To correctly install the UPS software, see the following instructions.


Turn the PC on, connect the USB cable to the UPS and to the PC.
Create a temporary folder and unzip into this folder the downloaded file upswincd.zip.
Run Installupsman

Type the Installation Key available in the file named “Install_CD_Key” (which is one of the
unzipped files in the folder)
Click Ok
Click on Advanced User
Click Ok

Click Yes. The program has been installed.


In case there will be a power failure, the following window will appear on the analyzer
screen.
