SCENE UNFOLDING MACHINE
‘The Scene unfolding machine (SUM) is a GM Emulator that helps your games move forward. It can be used as an
auxiliary toolkit to the Plot unfolding machine (PUM), or to complement your preferred setup. With GM Actions
you can fill in your scenes, NPC Disposition & Actions to resolve NPC interactions, and d100 for inspiration to
‘open questions, related to Subjects, Actions and Adjectives, which can be combined together and used anytime,
GM Actions
This mechanic helps you flow your current scene. Just like when playing with a GM, players look up to them,
prompting to move the game forward after taking or proposing their actions. If you ran out of concrete oracle
‘questions to make, your characters already took action, and you need a small push by the GM, then roll GM
Actions: 1420 + Scene Seore (SS).
The first time you roll in a scene, begin with 1420+ 0, then increase by +10 on each subsequent roll. Second roll
‘would be +10, third +20 and fourth +30. Automatically conclude the scene if you would roll a fifth time, if it didn’t
hit a conclusion already. This mechanic is optional, you do not have to complete all four rounds of GM Actions.
1d20+SS The GM... 1420+SS The GM..

16 Intraduces a random encounter or event 31 Last action or decision was a bad idea because
17 Puts characters in danger, tension or risk 32 Last action or decision was a good idea because,
18 Shows a clue or lead that indirectly helps a thread 33 Whatever characters were expecting is not here
19 Reveals something not seen or present earlier 34 Introduces a complication or thickens the plot
20 Resolve significant progress towards a thread 35+ Conclude the scene, make characters move on.
NPC Disrosrrion
After identifying whether an NPC will have a good or bad disposition (oll an oracle question, or randomly), you
‘ean figure out how an NPC approaches you or reacts to your characters on first sight, as well as their behavior.
Goon pisrosition BAD DISPOSITION

NPC Acrions
‘When playing scenes that are NPC centric, you might need help knowing how they react, what they do or say. For
this, we can roll NPC Actions: 1420 + Actor Score (AS), which just like the scene score, starts at 0 on each scene,
‘and adds +10 to each subsequent roll, until five times or hitting 35 or more which leads to conclude interaction,
1d20+AS. The NPC... 1d20+AS The NPC...
