The Lifetime Allowance The LTA was introduced in April 2006 setting a maximum value of tax-advantaged benefits you
reduction and what BP is doing can receive from all UK-registered pension schemes. You can earn pension benefits above the
LTA, but you will pay additional tax on the excess when they come into payment.
Making your pension choices Until 5 April 2012, any individual who is a member of a UK registered pension scheme, like the
in November BP Pension Fund, who expect the value of their total pension benefits to exceed £1.5 million
when they come into payment, has the opportunity to register for a new form of protection

In summary, fixed protection means your LTA will be fixed at £1.8 million rather than the
Improvements to Life assurance standard LTA of £1.5 million from 6 April 2012. However, there will be restrictions on pension
savings going forward. Fixed protection will cease, if, in the future, the standard LTA rises
Home above £1.8 million.
You cannot register for fixed protection if you:
• already have primary protection from the LTA, or,
• continue to hold enhanced protection from the LTA on or after 6 April 2012.
Your benefit statement on PensionLine tells you how your BP Pension Fund pension benefits
compare to the current LTA. Remember, it is your total benefits, from all UK registered pension
schemes, not just the BP Fund that is used to compare to the LTA.
UK Pensions & Benefits will be looking at how members of the BP Pension Fund will be affected
by the LTA change shortly. More information will follow later this year. However, as with most
Government changes, the onus is on the individual to register for fixed protection. This must be
completed before 6 April 2012 so you should actively begin reviewing your total pension benefits
to determine if you will be affected.

Private medical insurance – how it works and why you might want it
Home
Paid for by BP, there are many reasons to take advantage of Private medical insurance for you
and/or your spouse/partner/family:
• Typically, you will have a quicker route to getting your condition diagnosed, assessed and
treated than under the NHS.
• There are also more choices available to you. In discussion with your GP, you can choose your
consultant and you will be seen by the same consultant throughout your treatment, resulting
in continuous care. You also have more choice about where you want to be treated within
the Bupa network, have access to a private room and, in most cases, have unrestricted visiting
hours for stays in hospital.
• Joining the BP plan has advantages when compared to other options available on the high
street. Currently these include ‘Medical History Disregard’ so if you are a member of the BP
healthcare plan and you have a recurrence of a condition then it may well be covered in the
future – in some plans these would be excluded and you would need to use the NHS or meet
your own cost.
• It’s also low cost – you only pay income tax at your marginal rate (20%, 40% or 50%)
on the cost to BP of employee cover, and any cover for dependants is at favourable rates
when compared to other available alternatives.
• And finally, if you are a member and need to make a claim it is relatively straightforward, often
starting with a simple referral from your GP, followed by a phone call to the BP Bupa helpline.
So if you are not a member or haven’t covered your dependants, you may wish to consider taking
advantage at the upcoming your benefits, your way enrolment.

Home The EAP is aimed at providing support for your welfare on a wide range of issues. It provides
support to you through a confidential telephone helpline and, if appropriate, subsequent
face-to-face counselling and/or a referral service for the support you need.
Some of the areas it can support include:
• Financial information, such as exploring different options appropriate to your situation and
demystifying mortgages, tax and borrowing
• Debt counseling, including examining your financial commitments and spending, and advising
on debt management
• Specialist information, including guidance on rights and responsibilities, law and procedures,
and support for negotiating day-to-day issues, such as finding a suitable childcare provider.
All of this is free of charge to you. Furthermore, it is important to understand that the
service is completely confidential to you, and no one at BP will know anything relating
directly to you.
The EAP is provided by PPC who have skilled individuals who can support, coach and direct you.
It is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can learn more by accessing the EAP section
on the BP People portal website at https://bppeople.bpweb.bp.com/irj/portal# and following
