Descriptive Text
What is Descriptive Text?
Descriptive Text is a text that gives detailed or specific information about a person, place and
object.

Generic Structure
When writing descriptive text, there are some generic structures for our writing to be true.
And the arrangement is:
1. Identification: contains about the introduction of a person, place, animal or object will be
described.
2. Description: contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person by
describing its features, forms, colours, or anything related.

Language Feature
1. Specific participant : has a certain object, is not common and unique. for example:
Kuta beach, My house, Borobudur temple, uncle John
2. The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun, for example: a beautiful beach, a
handsome man, the famous place in Jakarta, etc.
3. The use of simple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple present because it
tells the fact of the object described.
4. Action verb: verbs that show an activity (for example, run, sleep, walk, cut etc….)

Example of Descriptive Text

The Colosseum or Coliseum, otherwise called the Flavian Amphitheater (Latin:
Amphitheatrum Flavium; and Italian: Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo), is a circular
amphitheatre in the focal point of the city of Rome. Manufactured of concrete and stone, it is
the greatest amphitheatre ever and is considered as one of the best works of construction
modelling and designing.

The Colosseum is found only east of the Roman Forum. Development of this building started
under the Vespasian head in 72 AD (Anno Domini), and was done in 80 AD under his
relatives and beneficiary Titus. Further remodels were made amid the rule of Domitian (81–
96).These three heads which are known as the Flavian administration, and the amphitheatre
was named in Latin in light of the fact that its connection with their family name (Flavius).
