KWL Chart

The KWL Chart is an instructional reading strategy that is used to guide students through a lesson. Students
begin by writing down their prior knowledge about the topics in the first column. In the second column, the students
will list some questions that they want to know about the topics. During or after learning about the topics, the
students will answer their own generated questions in the third column that represents the things they have
learned. .

There are things that I know I have questions in my mind like: I’ve learned that in revising a draft,

B. Explore
Donald Murray, a renowned writing teacher, once said that “All writing is rewriting”. How do you
understand his words and how is this related to revision? Write a paragraph explaining your answer
below.
“All writing is rewriting” simply means that from the very first word of the first draft of every
story, we are summoned, consciously or unconsciously, to rewrite those stories. No matter what you
write, there is always magic in the second draft. Or the third, or fourth. To a lot of people, that may
sound dull. But writing and rewriting, as well as revising, are closely interlinked and do not really
work separately. They work well in unison and will help create value and attract the readers’ attention
with their quality end product. Because if you never edit or revise your work, you will never deliver
your best work.

D. Elaborate

Draft: How to Choose a Good Book

Do you ever have trouble choosing a good book? I know I do. There are so many to
choose from. Ranging from adventure novels to biographies and mysteries to romances, there are
thousands of different books to choose from and each one of them has a different world in it.
Choosing a book can often be very difficult and challenging. Choosing a particular book from a sea
of unknown books in the library is often time consuming and consists of a lot of standing around
and just looking at the images on the book parties. This article tells you a list of steps on how to
choose a good book that fits to your learning style.

The first step in choosing a good book is to assess the type of books you read the most
and like. Ask yourself if you enjoyed reading a mystery novel more or if you learned more from a
historical book. Also find out which type of writing you like best. Different types of writing appeal to
different types of people. For example, there are authors who write in long, descriptive imagery, or
fast action packed word, or very factual statements. Once you choose which genre and type of
writing you like, open the book and read the summary.

The second step in choosing a good book is to read the summary and if it sounds
appealing, give it a try! The summary will give you a basic synopsis of the novel you are holding.
If the summary pikes your interest, open the book and start reading the chapter. You will never
know what's in a book until you open it. Also, don't give up on the book too early. At least read into
one tenth of the book before you return it. Before you know it, you'll be immersed in a new world.

The third step in choosing a good book is to ask your friends. Your friends probably read
a lot of different books than you. Your friend can give you great recommendations on your next
book to read and give you their thoughts on a book. Teachers and librarians can also tell you which
books they liked. Usually, the choices are very good, but always follow your own preferences first.
If you have already read all of the book suggestions other people have given you, go check online,
there are sure to be good recommendations. Recommendations and ideas from other people will
give you a quick, easy list of great books to read.

Before you know it, you will have a great book to read if you follow the steps. Don't give
up on trying to find a book, you will find one that suits you. There will always be a good book waiting
out there for you, just waiting for you to pick it up and read it.

 Do I have a big idea I want to express, an important message to send out? Do I have an audience
who will listen to me? Who is my audience? Yes, I do have and that is, from the title itself, how
to choose a good book. People who loves books, often called bookworms, are the individuals
that I consider as the audience in writing the essay.
 What is my purpose for writing? Have I achieved it? To share to others the steps on how to find
a good book is clearly written in the essay. As a sequential essay, it followed the basic format of

 Do I have enough credibility to speak on my chosen subject? Can I back up all of my discussions
on the subject with confidence and sufficient knowledge? As a student, I am well aware of my
strengths and weaknesses, thus I wouldn’t pick a topic that I am not confident of. With the help
of my experience and some of the insights of my friends, I know that I can pull off this essay.
 Does my draft make a central point? Have I defined the limits of my draft well, so that only
essential information is included? Is the context of my draft established? Yes, it somehow does
make sense and the context about finding a good book is understandable. But the essay is very
simple, and it does needs revision,
 What form of writing does my draft take? Is it the best venue for my ideas to be expressed? The
draft has a sequential form of writing, the topic guides the writing and organization.

discussions? Is it fast enough so the reader’s interest still stays with me? One advantage of a
sequential essay is its numerical order or steps that aids the reader which one should be done
first and last. The pace the draft has is just alright for the reader to follow. Each steps have details
so that the ready can easily apply it.
 Does the draft read smoothly and coherently overall? Yes, it is just chill to read and conveys the
information coherently.
 What are the strengths of my draft? How can I make these stand out more? The strengths of my
draft is the power of a good book. All books are astonishingly amazing but not all is as good as
another. Standing out this essay is by writing the impacts of a good book in order for the reader
to really find a good book.
 What are the weaknesses of my draft? How can I improve on these? The weakness that I can
see is that the essay is very simple to the point that it is not up to the standards of senior high
school writing, in terms of word choice such as the overuse of the word good, and the use of
personal pronouns. Using of adjectives must be applied as well as proper construction of
sentences, specifically the use of pronouns.

E. Evaluation

In your experience of revising your work, what do you think is the most important
benefit of revision? What aspect of revision do you think you can improve on, and how
do you plan to achieve that? Answer the questions in a short paragraph below. (10
points)
It is amazing how revision can open up the door to the exact answers I was looking
for, or perhaps weren’t even trying to find. But they do come, nonetheless, and surprise me into
realizing how much potential I really possess. For me, this is the most important benefit of
revision that I experienced. To draft a piece and look back over it only to realize the latent
possibilities of my mind is indeed one of the amazing things that I ever experienced as a student.
The aspect of revision that I can improve on is to improve my reading skills and analytical skills.
With reading well allows one to spend less time figuring out the words to use in writing as well
as come up with a writing piece that is well organized. I can accomplish this by reading and
reading more as well as making writing as my hobby.
