Please answer the following questions.

1. Why does the name “Jesus” reveal God’s mercy to sinners?

- Because the name Jesus signifies the individual who saves, it reflects God's forgiveness of
sinners.
2. Where does Scripture distinguish between mortal and venial sin?
- The distinction between deadly and venial sins is made clear by the Scripture, the Church's
Tradition, and personal experience. By committing a mortal sin, an individual loses charity, turns
away from God, and chooses a lesser good. While venial sin offends kindness, it permits it to
endure in the soul.
3. How does mortal sin affect the theological virtue of charity in the soul of man?
- Charity is a theological virtue, yet mortal sin may destroy it in a person's soul, which harms the
virtue.
4. How does venial sin affect the theological virtue of charity in the soul of man?
- As a theological virtue, charity is affected by venial sin because it wounds charity in the soul of
man, but it does not kill charity.
5. How is conversion after a mortal sin normally accomplished?
- Conversion after a mortal sin usually occurs by confession. Upon committing a mortal sin, we will
mainly go to confession as soon as possible. We are fortunate to be able to confess our sins, and
God's compassion is so great that he will accept even the toughest sins as soon as we ask.
