Security Council of United Nations

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is the most powerful body within the United
Nations and is responsible for maintaining international peace and security. It has five
permanent members: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, and Russia, and
ten non-permanent members that are elected by the General Assembly on a rotating basis. The
Security Council has the authority to impose sanctions and authorize the use of military force in
cases of international conflict. It also has the power to refer cases to the International Court of
Justice and may take steps to implement its decisions. The Security Council was established in
1945 as part of the UN Charter. Its primary objective is to maintain international peace and
security, and it is tasked with preventing war and resolving disputes between states. The
Security Council has the authority to impose sanctions and authorize the use of military force in

the United Nations that has the power to make decisions that are legally binding on all UN
