Marines
Swordsmen
Marine swordsmen are a stubborn lot. Where most
soldiers of the marines carry both a melee weapon and
a ranged weapon, typically cutlass and musket, these
soldiers trust only in their blades. However, this bravery
makes them all the more likely to charge against even
the most frightful of foes, and attempts to frighten them
are highly unreliable. They are additionally physically
adept, able to wrestle and grapple with pirates if they
need to.
Elite
The elite troops of the marine swordsmen are easily
spotted by the multiple blades they carry with them,
usually wielding a scimitar in each hand. These elite
troopers make for deadly opponents in a melee,
becoming whirlwinds of steel that cut down evil without
mercy. Skilled swordsmen, they’ve mastered the art of
parrying attacks with their swords as well.
Ensign
When a marine swordsman reaches the ensign rank
and gains their heavy longcoat, their physical presence
skyrockets. Like all ensigns, they hold sway over lower-
ranked marine soldiers. These ensigns are taught
Rokushiki techniques, and as swordsmen they naturally
gravitate towards the rankyuaku technique, allowing
them to create cutting shockwaves with their kicks.
With both legs now being blades for them, they eschew
dual wielding in favor of a nodachi for cleaving through
multiple enemies at once.
Swordsman ensigns typically subscribe to an idea of
“swift justice” and act as the vanguards of the marines,
always rushing first to the frontlines. With an ensign at
the head, a squadron of marine swordsmen become a
swift wave of steel that quickly and efficiently cut a swat
through hoardes of bandits and pirates.
Marksmen  
Marksmen make up the general ranks of the marine
forces alongside swordsmen. Where the former typically
act as shock troopers, marksmen tend to make up the
rear guard, attacking from a distance with their rifles
and muskets. Even the typical grunt have a keen eye as
a result of their marksmanship training, and this
typically means they act as lookouts and scouts.
Elite
The elite troops of the marine marksmen aren’t always
easy to tell at a glance. Usually, it only becomes
apparent to the unfortunate pirate when the troops
begin to fire coordinated volleys with frightening
frequency, mobilizing around the battlefield in the blink
of an eye and reloading on the move.
Ensign
Once a marksman reaches ensign and earns their heavy
longcoat, they become a true force to be reckoned with.
Like other ensigns, they are taught the basics of
rokushiki, gravitating towards the geppo technique
which they use in tandem with their swiftness to escape
from a melee or reach high ground.
Marksman ensigns typically believe in “patient
justice” and tend to remain calm and composed
regardless of the situation. They coordinate attacks with
the marksmen under their command, taking out their
enemies one at a time with concentrated volleys.
Guardians
Stoic and unwavering, the marine guardians are
typically the final line of defense in any marine base.
These soldiers are easily recognized by their choice of
weapon, the glaive, as well as their serious and
oftentimes dour personalities. Guardians have keen
eyes as well as instincts, and aren’t easily fooled. In
addition to this, rigorous physical exercises specifically
designed to enhance their resilience make them
remarkably difficult to land a telling blow upon.
Elite
The toughest among the marine guardians make up
their elite forces, and these men and women make
imposing enemies on the battlefield. Well aware that
they are the last line of defense in the pursuit of justice,
these stalwart souls refuse to bow down in a fight, and
has been observed to remain standing against attacks
that should well have killed them.
Ensign
The path to ensign is a tough one for those who aspire
to become guardians, as only the best and most loyal
are even given a chance to earn their longcoat.
However, those that prevail become the wall upon
which the waves of injustice break, and it comes as little
surprise to find that their preferred rokushiki technique
is tekkai.
Guardian ensigns are often found to follow a creed of
“stalwart justice”, unwavering in their resolve and
willing to lay down their lives for the cause´of peace
and justice. A line of guardians helmed by an ensign
becomes nigh unbreakable even against the most
relentless of monsters.
Brawlers  
A stark contrast to the ideals of a marine soldier and the
image that marine HQ wants to preserve stand the
brawlers. Vicious and belligerent, many would have a
difficult time telling a marine brawler from a common
thug or even a pirate if it weren’t for their uniforms.
Where the swordsmen have honor, the marksmen have
pride, and the guardians have unwavering resolve, the
brawlers make up for it by nothing short of sheer
bloodthirst. So great is their hunger for battle that they
rarely even use weapons, instead heading into battle
prepared to fight and kill pirates with nothing but their
bare fists.
Elite
The elite of the brawlers is more often than not the most
bloodthirst bunch. While they follow orders and stay in
their lane while the commanding officer is watching,
once the chaos of battle is a fact they quickly shed any
notions of fair play or dignity. Forget caring for civilian
casualties or collateral damage, these bruisers attack so
recklessly they don’t even leave room to defend
themselves, each scar earned in combat being a badge
of honor to their ilk.
Ensign
The ensigns among the brawlers are a dangerous lot,
but not for the reason one might think. One cannot rise
in the ranks of the marines by being a barbaric
bloodhound. No, these brawlers are the ones that learn
to temper their bloodthirst, and retain a clear enough
mindset to lead men into battle. To this end, most of
these ensigns learn the shigan technique in order to kill
their enemies quickly, before they lose themselves
entirely to the thrill of battle.
That being said, these soldiers are no less brutal in a
fight. Instead of uncontrolled fury however, you are
instead dealing with a cold-blooded killer who has little
remorse for pirates, often following the teachings of
“uncompromising justice”. It is rare for a contingent of
brawlers to return with a captured pirate alive.
