Latar Belakang

Therefore the solution that will be carried out in this research is to increase the community's
role in community-based waste management with the 3R method (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).
In this case increasing the community's role in sorting organic and inorganic waste, reducing
waste generation at the source, increasing the community's role in carrying out 3R from home,
increasing the effectiveness of the performance of waste banks and 3R TPS, and also increasing
the number of 3R TPS as providers of large-scale waste management facilities. area in Batam
City.
Methods (Research Flowwchart)
The first step to do is Observation, Observation aims to determine the condition of the location
to be sampled, then data collection is collecting the necessary data, namely primary data
(sourced from direct data in the field) and secondary data (sourced from books, journals and
the internet). The secondary data taken is the total population, the number of waste banks, and
the location of the 3R TPS. Which then obtained the location of the waste bank and TPS 3R
which will be sampled. The results of this sampling are used to determine the amount of waste
generation reduction that was successfully carried out by the waste bank & TPS 3R before
entering the landfill. Therefore, the results of the 3R effectiveness in reducing waste generation
at the TPA were obtained. After that it is included in the report.
Methods (Tools)
3. Scales, to weigh the generated waste
4. Logbooks, to record the results of the scales
5. Shovel & brooms To sort waste in 3R TPS
6. Tarpaulin To put waste in the 3R TPS that will be selected

Methods (Sampling)
❖ Condition of the community
The aims is to find out the community's condition regarding understanding in 3R (Reduce,
Reuse, Recycle) and community participation in Community-Based Waste Management.
❖ Waste Bank (baca ini dulu)
• Waste bank sampling aims to determine the amount of waste generated that is managed
by the waste bank and sold to third parties.
• Where is obtained with a population of 171 (right side), past the 10% error rate, a point
above 28% is found (left side). (setelah baca ppt)
• After knowing the samples of waste banks, the next step is to carry out sampling in each
of the waste banks that have been determined.
Reserch Results
❖ Community-Based Waste Management and 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
Community-based waste management that is already running in Batam City, namely there
is a waste bank and 3R waste disposal.
1. Where, 27% have done sorting at home while 73% have not done sorting.
4. So that government policies regarding waste reduction in Batam City are not running
effectively.
❖ Recap of Waste Composition at Waste Bank
• To find out the amount of managed waste in the waste bank, each type of waste is
weighed every month. This is a recap of managed waste in each district with graph. The
graph shown waste managed in waste bank in 9 district. The sampling are doing in 3
month from july to september. From the graph the highest waste managed happen in
batu aji district in july the amount is 1.018,9 kg. (slide 1)
• And here’s the table from the graphic before. (slide 2)
• From the recap results, the district that processed the most waste was Batu Aji district
with a total processed waste is 2,232.28 kg, with an average processed waste of 93.01
kg/month/waste bank. The total waste bank is 8 waste bank in Batu aji district. The
following is a table of waste composition. (slide 3)
• The waste bank that processes the highest waste is the IKMB waste bank with 554.4 kg
of waste sales for 3 months with an average sales of 184.8 kg/month. The most sold
waste in Batu Aji District was paper waste with a total sales of 1,437.4 kg while the
least amount of waste was other waste (used cooking oil & used batteries) of only 112.5
kg. (slide 4)

❖ Waste Composition at Waste Bank (baca ppt dulu)

• Types of plastic waste include: clean aqua glass, dirty aqua glass, clean plastic bottles,
dirty plastic bottles, buckets, gallon caps, bottle caps, asoi plastic, black buckets, CD
and HDPE cassettes. Metal waste includes: alkaline cans (aluminum), cans of milk
(iron) and Alma. Paper waste includes: cardboard (cardboard), textbooks, HVS, solid
paper, egg boards and old newspapers. While other waste includes: used cooking oil
and used batteries.
• The following is the percentage of each type of waste in pie chart and the following is
the detail percentage of each type waste in table
❖ Recycling Rate in Waste Bank
After getting the average managed waste yield at each waste bank in each district, the next
step is to find the recycling rate results, by means of average reduction (kg/day) x number
of waste banks /(divided) total waste in each sub-district (0.9 kg/ person/day). Here is the
recycling rate in each district:
❖ Mass Balance
From the result shown, the total of waste bank recycling rate in Batam City is 0,05%. The
total reduction potency is 489,08 kg/day or 178,29 ton/years. And the total waste generation
goes to landfill is 387.397,42 ton/years with waste potency is 0,9 kg/person/day (Dinas
Lingkungan Hidup, 2022)
❖ Waste Reduction Effectiveness in TPS 3R (baca ini dulu)
3R Waste Disposal Tiban Lama or which has the name TPS 3R KSM Harapan Baru is
located at Air Terjun RT 01/ RW 08, Kelurahan Tiban Lama, Sekupang District.
Geographically, the location of TPS 3R Tiban Lama is at coordinates 1.100934 LS and
103.987682 BT.
❖ Waste Volume
• The first sampling carried out was measuring the volume of generation from the waste
transport vehicle to 3R Waste Disposal. (Baca ini dulu)
• From the table and graph shown result, the highest waste volume was in day 2, with
the total volume amount is 9,67 m3/day and the average is 2,42 m3/day. And from the
total sampling in 8 consecutive days the average volume for tiban lama 3R waste
disposal is 7,46 m3/day (setelah baca ppt)
❖ Waste Density & total waste
• Waste density data is needed to obtain the value of waste generation in units of weight.
(baca ini dulu)
• After obtaining the average of waste density, the next step is to calculate the total
generation by means of the average of waste volume multiplied by the average of waste
density (setelah baca ppt)

❖ Waste Composition
• After getting the results of waste volume, waste density and total waste generation,
waste is sorted based on type to determine waste composition. The total percentage of
waste composition is calculated by comparing the total weight of the types of waste
with the total weight of the waste samples.
• The following table is detail of waste composition (setelah itu baca tabel).
❖ Efficiency and mass balance (diagram alir)
The potential generation that goes into 3R Waste Disposal Tiban Lama is 461.99 tons/year
with a reduction efficiency of 76%, the waste that can be managed is 352.34 tons/year with
organic waste 163.68 tons/year (35%) and inorganic waste marketable 188.6 tons/year
(41%). The resulting waste residue is 24%, so the waste that goes to the Telaga Punggur
Landfill is 109.64 tons/year. The reduction performance at 3R Waste Disposal is quite good
at 76%, this is supported by the waste processing facilities at 3R Waste Disposal Tiban
Lama which are quite complete and the waste segregation process is quite good
❖ Total Recycling Rate (setelah baca ppt)
The recycling rate with the waste bank & 3R Waste Bank is still very low, that only 0.14%,
so the waste that has been reduced is 530.64 tons/year. The resulting residue goes to the
Telaga Punggur landfill, which is 386,866.79 tons/year.
