Zare's Favorite Brain Teaser

You are familiar with chlorine and its characteristic smell: this is the active ingredient in household
bleach. If the cell has been on, you will be able smell chlorine in the room.

Logically, there are three possibilities and you need to reduce that to one certain outcome - so you
need, at least, two measurements.

Turn on switch #1 for a few minutes; turn it off and then turn on switch #2. Now, enter the room.

If bubbles are coming from the electrodes, it is switch #2. If no bubbles are coming from the electrodes
but you smell chlorine, then it is switch #1. If neither bubbles come from the electrodes nor is there
any smell of chlorine, then it is switch #3.
