Life Saving Rules for oil and gas industry:


1. No tempering of positive isolation system, (LOTO)
2. Follow all standards of Work at Height,
3. Follow all the compliance of Hot Work,
4. Follow Permit to work system,
5. No Bypassing safety controls,
6. No naked fire/ flame.

2. Tell something about H2S (Hydrogen sulfide) gas:


Hydrogen sulfide gas is the hazardous gas, which commonly found in oil and gas industry, It is highly toxic, Highly
poisonous & colourless gas, It smells like rotten egg at low concentrations, Possibly no warning at high concentrations, It is
extremely flammable, soluble in water,
 1 ppm: You may be able to smell the H2S odor, a “rotten egg” smell.
 10 ppm: Your eyes and airways become irritated after an hour of exposure.
 20 ppm: Headaches, nausea, vomiting, coughing, and difficulty breathing may occur.
 50 ppm: Your sense of smell is eliminated after 15 minutes of exposure.
 100 ppm: Loss of smell occurs after 3 minutes of exposure, and eye and respiratory tract irritation occur.
 200 ppm: The sense of smell is eliminated almost immediately, and you will experience a burning sensation in your eyes
and nose.
 500 ppm: Unconsciousness occurs after brief exposure, and you will not be able to breathe if you aren’t treated quickly.
 700 ppm: Unconsciousness occurs instantly, breathing stops, and you will die if not rescued right away.
 1,000 ppm: Instant unconsciousness and permanent brain damage occur, leading to death.
3. The critical level of H2S gas:
10 PPM and above. Should be want to use calibrated gas detector.
4. PASS:
This is the method to operate a fire extinguisher,
Pull-pull out the pin from the extinguisher,
Aim-aim the extinguisher’s hose at base of the fire,
Squeeze-firmly squeeze the trigger to discharge the contents of the fire extinguisher,
Sweep-Sweep the extinguisher hose from side to side.
