This document discusses statistical concepts used in an experiment involving weighing coins. It introduces statistics as a method to accurately analyze and present data through concepts like the mean, median, standard deviation, and Q test. The experiment weighed one and five peso coins to determine weight variation and apply statistical measures like outliers and confidence intervals. Replicate measurements were taken to obtain reliable data and assess the validity of proposed metrics using statistical analysis.

Statistics is a mathematical science dealing with the collection, organization, analysis,
interpretation, and presentation of data. It offers a method to convey data that is more accurate than simple observation. Different statistical concepts were employed in this experiment, including the Q test, mean, median standard deviation, relative standard deviation, coefficient of variation, range, and confidence intervals. The decision of whether to reject or keep an outlier measurement is frequently made using a Q test. Data collection for statistical analysis can be done in a variety of ways. This can be done through direct observation, surveys, and by conducting experiments. If an experiment is repeated many times and the errors are purely random, then the results tend to cluster symmetrically about the average value. The more times the experiment is repeated, the more closely the results approach an ideal smooth curve called the Gaussian distribution. Statistical behaviors derived from a small number of measurements can be represented as a collection of complete measurements (Harris, 2010). For experiments and problem solving to yield accurate results, it is critical that the data used be reliable. Replicate measurements are collected to achieve this. The validity of the proposed metrics is subsequently assessed using statistical concepts. This experiment was designed to show the experimenter how to apply statistical concepts to different coin weights. The experiment involved using a top-loading balance to weigh one-peso coins in the same year and in different years, as well as five-peso coins. This experiment's primary objectives were to determine the weight variation and apply statistical concepts to a sample of coins. The sample coins taken from the population as well as repeated measurements will be described using the ideas of outliers and confidence intervals.
