Q1: What is a dam?
Ans:A dam is a large wall or barrier that blocks or stops the flow of water,
forming a reservoir or a lake.
Q2: In which form the water is present on the Earth?
Ans: Water is present in the form of oceans, lakes, seas, rivers and springs on the
Earth.
Q3: What are the main sources of irrigation in India?
Ans:The main sources of irrigation in India are canals, tanks , tube wells and
other wells, with tube wells and canals together accounting for about 70 % of
total irrigation .
Q4: What do you mean by multipurpose project?
Ans:Multi purpose project is a project which can do many works at a time or a project
which serves more than one project is called multi purpose project. for example,
water resolution project is planned for various purpose like irrigation, hydropower
generation, water supply for drinking, etc.
Q5: What do you mean by hydroelectricity?
Ans:Hydroelectricity is electricity made by generators that are pushed by the
movement of water. It is usually made with dams that block a river to make a
reservoir or collect water that is pumped there. When the water is released, the
pressure behind the dam forces the water downpipes that lead to a turbine. This
causes the turbine to turn, which turns a generator which makes electricity.
