Narrator/Regina: The people the Indians were watching were called Pilgrims.

Over the winter,

the Pilgrims built a town.

Man /Gerardo: I wish spring would come! I am tired of being cold and hungry.

:Woman/Amy: This winter has been very hard. It is no wonder that so many of us are sick!

Woman 1/Tania:Half of the Pilgrims died this first winter.

Man 1/Ricardo: We can't give up.

Women 2/Ximena: The Mayflower is going back to England soon. Will you go with them or stay
here?

:Man 2/Emilio: This is my home now. I will stay.

:Woman 2/Aryadne Spring is almost here. We must plant our crops.

Narrator/Regina: The Pilgrims had brought many seeds with them. They had found corn seeds,
too.

:Man 2/Emilio Do the Indians know we will pay them back for the corn?

:Woman 3/Julia I hope so. But we have not talked to them yet. When they see us, they run
away.

Narrator/Regina: That day, the Pilgrims met an Indian named Samoset. He spoke some English.
The Pilgrims told him they wanted to be friends. Samoset took this news to Massasoit and
Squanto.

Samoset/Julio I have talked with the English people, they are friendly. They want to talk with
you.

Massasoit/Cesar I know how they feel, New place, no food . They need our help.

Squanto/Mariano: This is great news! We will go and talk to the English.

:Massasoit/Cesar:Hi, My name is Massasoit, he is Squanto. Samoset told me you want to talk.

Dont worry. We are here to share some ideas about agriculture. Come with us.

Man /Juan Thank you for teaching us how to find food and grow crops.

:Woman 4/Zully: Thank you, Squanto! We have learned so much from you. Our crops are doing
well.

:Man 5/Diego: The corn plants are taller than I am!

Squanto/Mariano: That is because we planted fish along with the seeds.

WOMAN 5/Isabella You have shown us other things, too. You showed us how to catch fish and
where to find berries.

:Woman 6/Lea: And how to get syrup from trees!

WOMAN 7/Mya: Squanto also showed the us how to grow beans and squash. He helped us
hunt for wild turkey, deer, and other animals.
NARRATOR/Regina The pilgrims had much to celebrate although nearly half of their
people died they had successfully built homes in the wilderness raised enough
crops to keep them alive during the long coming winter and they were at peace
with their Indian neighbors, it was time to give thanks.
Woman 8/Natally: We will have plenty of food this winter. We must have a big party!

Woman 9/Violeta: You can come and bring your families. That way, we can thank you for all
your help.
