General instructions-
1. The Question Paper contains five sections.
2. Section A: Q No: 1 to 18 are MCQ carrying 1 mark each.
3. Section B: Q No: 19 to 25 are short answer questions and carry 2
marks each.
4. Section C: Q No: 26 to 30 are short answer questions and carry 3
marks each.
5. Section D: Q No: 31to 32 are case study based question carrying 4
marks. long answer questions and carry 5 marks each.
6. Section E: Q No 33 to 35 are long answer questions and carry 5
marks each.
7. All questions are compulsory.
8. There is no overall choice. However an internal choice has been
provided in two questions of two marks, two questions of three
marks and all the three questions of five marks weightage. You
have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.
9. Use Log tables if necessary, use of calculators are not allowed.

overall reaction to form a white layer of zinc hydroxide.
(b) A solution of Ni(NO3)2 is electrolysed between platinum electrodes
using a current a current of 5.0 ampere for 20 minutes. What mass of
nickel will be deposited at the cathode?

32. Read the passage given below and answer the following questions:
The reaction of phenol with aqueous sodium hydroxide indicates that
phenols are stronger acids than alcohols and water. Due to the higher
electronegativity of sp2 hybridized carbon of phenol to which –OH is
attached, electron density decreases on oxygen. This increases the
polarity of the O–H bond and results in an increase in ionization of
phenols than that of alcohols. Now let us examine the stabilities of
alkoxide and phenoxide ions. In alkoxide ion, the negative charge is
localized on oxygen while in phenoxide ion, the charge is delocalized. The
delocalisation of negative charge makes phenoxide ions more stable and
favours the ionization of phenol.
