INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Read carefully the installation instructions before starting the cable preparation.
Check if all the components listed on the bill of material are in the kit.
1. CABLE PREPARATION (fig. n. 1 and n. 2)
1.1 Train the cable in final position and cut it properly to connect to the electrical system.
1.2 Remove the outer jacket according to the CABLE JACKET REMOVAL LENGTH " A " (shown on the table according to the
voltage).
1.3 Fix the metallic protective covering (armour) at approx 40 mm from the outer jacket edge by some laps of copper wire. Remove
the armour near the copper wire.
1.4 Roughen the outer jacket for 50 mm.
WARNING: The ELCOMASTIC 83 tape must be applied stretching up to reduce the original width to the half, about.
1.5 Apply two halflapped layers of ELCOMASTIC 83 tape on the outer jacket edge for a tract of 30 mm from the edge.
CABLE WITH WIRE SHIELD
1.6 Don’t cut the wires of the metallic shield, but turn back completely on the outer jacket and fix them on to the cable at 50 mm
(lower tape edge) from the outer jacket edge, by some laps of PVC tape ELCOPLAST 51.
Joint and twist the wires of the metallic shield together in order to obtain a strand-shape conductor.
CABLE WITH TAPE SHIELD
1.7 Remove the tape shield, leaving them exposed for a length of 25 mm from armour edge.
1.8 Fix on the exposed tapes of the metallic shield the ground copper braid, tinned side, with the costant force spring. Fix the
ground copper braid on to the cable at 50 mm (lower tape edge) from the outer jacket edge, by some laps of PVC tape
ELCOPLAST 51.
--------------------------------------
1.9 Fix the wires of metallic shield or the ground copper braid on the armour with the costant force spring.
1.10 Apply, to the end of the wire shield opportunely shaped or to the end of ground copper braid, the low voltage lug and crimp it
with appropriate tools.
1.11 Remove the cable semiconductor (if necessariy use appropriate tool) leaving exposed 55 mm from the armour edge for cable
with wire shield, or for 30 mm from the shield edge for cable with tape shield.
1.12 Remove the primary insulation in such a way to expose the conductor of a cable for a length corresponding to the lug depth +
5 mm. Pay attention do not damage the conductor.
1.13 Apply a suitable medium voltage lug, orient it correctly, and crimp it with a suitable tools, remove sharp or point of a crimping
product and, at least fill up by a mastic eventual hole.
1.14 If necessary, smooth the insulation surface, to be sure that all semiconducting traces are removed, using the supplied
abrasive cloth without touching the semiconductive layer.
1.15 Clean the cable insulation by the cleaning tissue, starting from the top end toward the semiconductor, if necessary clean also
the cable semiconductor without touching the primary insulation previously cleaned.

2. STRESS RELIEF DEVICE (fig. n. 2 and n. 3)

WARNING: The ELCOMASTIC 85 tape must be applied slightly stretched.
2.1 Wrap one half lapped layer of ELCOMASTIC 85 tape, overlapping for 20 mm the primary insulation and for 15 mm the cable
semiconductor.
2.2 Apply the stress relief tube MCC (black colour) in such a way to overlap the semiconductor for 5 mm.
Heat-shrink the tube using a propane gas-fuelled torch, adjusted in order to obtain a blue flame with yellow rims (thin flame).
Keep the flame oriented toward the part of the tube which must be heat-shrink angle 15-20 degrees. Flame without lingering
the tube with the edge of the tool. Heat-shrink the tube, starting from the bottom and move towards the top, heating it uniformely
along the circumference, do not stop the flame on parts of the tube already shrunk.
2.3 Apply the ELCOMASTIC 83 on the exposed conductor, which is between primary insulation and the lug, in such a way to level
these surfaces. Then continue to apply it with at least two halflapped layers until to overlap the cylindrical part of the lug itself,
or if is necessary, reaching the primary insulation's diameter.
2.4 Apply the ELCOMASTIC 85 around the top edge of stress relief tube, in order to fill up and smooth off the gap between the tube
and the primary insulation.
2.5 Apply, finaly, the ELCOMASTIC 83 tape on the exposed semiconductor and armour in such a way as to overlap completely the
ELCOMASTIC 83 previousely applied on the outer jacket edge.

3. TERMINATION INSTALLATION (fig. n. 4)

3.1 Apply the nontracking tube MAT (red colour) check that the lower edge of it corresponding with the lower edge of the ELCOPLAST
51 taping, previously applied, on the outer jacket. Heat shrink with the same caution previously indicate. After the heath
shrinking, cut eventualy the exceeding tube in such a way to leave expose the lug hole.
3.2 Apply the first rain shed just after the heat shrinking of the MAT tube locating the upper rain shed edge at 190 mm distance
from the lower nontracking tube edge and heat shrink around the circumference orienting the heat only on the neck of the rain
shed.
Apply the other rain shed (shown on the table) in such a way to leave the dimension of 80 mm from the upper rain shed edge.
3.3 Connect the medium voltage lug to the electrical sistem and the low voltage lug to the ground station.
3.4 The termination is ready to withstand tension and current.
