MemberPlus+ Bulletin Archive (Search & Retrieve 1917 to

Present)
Location: http://www.petris.com/aapg/search.vpx
Effective July 1, 2002 this service will be another benefit provided to AAPG Members.

MemberPlus+ Bulletin Archive is a subscription service for AAPG members that allows them to
perform search and retrieval of the entire Bulletin database back to 1917. The subscription to this
service has previously been US$99 per year, though it has become a benefit of membership as of
July 2002. This service is for individual AAPG members only* and is not transferable.

MemberPlus+ provides a powerful search capability. By carefully constructing a search, one may filter
out all the similar but undesirable entries without losing the data they are seeking.

All articles can be viewed in HTML while online or downloaded as Adobe Acrobat files for later
viewing or printing.
Features--
1. all AAPG Bulletin articles
2. open 24 hours, 7 days/week
3. all articles include PDF option for download and printing with all images
4. search-and-retrieval of every word in every article, figure caption, table heading

• Initial Search Page Sample on next page.

* Corporate subscriptions to the AAPG/Datapages archive are also available.

AAPG/Datapages Corporate Subscription (Search and

Retrieval from Multiple Journals)
Location: http://data3corp.petris.com

Corporate subscriptions to the same database that is used for MemberPlus+ Bulletin Archive are also
available to universities and firms in the oil and gas industry. Universities and other not-for-profit
educational institutions receive a discounted rate for their subscriptions.

Several major firms were sponsors of the original digitization project and still get their basic
subscription as a result of their sponsorship. Subscription rates depend upon the number of users at
a firm. An entire company may have a subscription, or only a particular division of that firm.

This database uses the same search engine as MemberPlus+ Bulletin Archive, but with several
added criteria such as searching the references, acknowledgements or publication type.

Access to this database is controlled by IP address. We will “allow” a range of public IP numbers that
represent all the firms’ computers that can see the Internet. This is the preferred method of access for
both ease of use and security. Passwords can also be supplied upon request for use in the field or off
site.

Like MemberPlus+ Bulletin Archive, all the papers are presented as HTML with links to a full PDF file
of the document complete with figures.

The database is maintained and served up by Petris Technologies in Houston. The collections
currently available are:

• AAPG Bulletin (1917-Present)

• AAPG Special Publications (Memoirs, Studies in Geology, Course Notes, etc.)
• GCAGS Transactions (Gulf Coast Assn. Of Geological Societies)
• Journal of Sedimentary Research (JSR, published by SEPM)
• Journal of Petroleum Geology (JPG, published by Geological Society of London)
• Field Papers from the New Orleans Geological Society
• Field Papers from the East Texas Geological Society
• Petroleum Abstracts

Several new collections are currently in progress. These include publications by the Pacific Section of
AAPG and the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG) publications.

We have recently added the University of Tulsa’s Petroleum Abstracts. The Petroleum Abstracts
service provides bibliographic petroleum information products and services for the global petroleum
exploration and production industry. These products cover the petroleum topic areas of geosciences,
drilling, reservoir and production engineering, shipping and storage and other technologies relevant to
the upstream petroleum industry.

The AAPG collection always includes both the Bulletin and Special Pubs. Corporate users will be
directed to different URLs depending upon the subscription purchased. There are as many URLs as
there are combinations of collection subscriptions.

Note: the URL does not include www.

AAPG ONLINE SERVICES GUIDE - 19 MARCH 2003 PAGE 15

A subscription is only good for one URL, so a client that "cannot log in" may be at a URL that their
firm was formerly using. Custom URLs may be created, primarily for gift subscriptions.

The opening search page for Data3Corp is pictured below.

Custom pages may also be produced, such as this page for Chulalongkorn University in
Thailand.

This search and retrieval site contains the same items as the Datapages Corporate subscription
database. Users may purchase individual papers for $8 and abstracts for $2 with no subscription
obligation.

AAPG Online Bookstore

Location: http://bookstore.aapg.org/

The AAPG Online Bookstore allows members and nonmembers to purchase any of our Books, CD-
ROMS, Maps, IOL Modules, etc. 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The current setup requires
everyone to register at the bookstore site and create a username and password. This is to ensure
that AAPG or The Geological Society (London) members receive the member pricing. Only
purchases with credit cards can be completed through the online bookstore. Users may go through
the online process and get their total with shipping, then print that page and send it in with their
payment. This site will be changing in the next few months, to simplify the ordering process.

Credit Card security is assured through use of a secure server using the “Verisign” system. There are
descriptions of the books, reviews and sample pages of most of the products. This is also the only
place to purchase Interactive Online Learning (IOL) modules.

Interactive Online Learning (IOL)

Information: http://www.aapg.org/iolcourse/index.html
Courses online: http://www.iol.agiweb.org/

IOL is a computer-based teaching system for continuing education. We currently have 15 “modules”
available. Each module covers a fairly narrow concept and takes approximately 30 to 90 minutes to
complete. The modules are truly “interactive” in that a student must complete various exercises to
proceed in the module. The exercise may be placing downhole sensors and positioning a ground
station before firing a seismic charge, then clicking on “fire” to actually run the model based on their
sensor placement (Designing Velocity Checkshot Surveys and Interpreting Checkshot Data). In
other modules the student may have to decide what time shift creates the optimal correlation between
the VSP and 3-D seismic reflection events by moving the seismic image up and down in relation to
the 3-D image. (A Practical Use of Vertical Seismic Profiles - Stratigraphic Calibration of 3D
Seismic Data).

The individual modules cost $35 and are active for 45 days. A student may go through the module as
many times as they wish in that time. The time may be extended by notifying us in advance of the
module expiration. Special pricing is currently being offered. For anyone purchasing four modules at
the same time, they may get the modules for only $120, but they must use coupon number
1296103825F. There are also coupons to save more when purchasing 8 or 12 at once. These
coupons are listed on the web site: http://www.aapg.org/iolcourse/index.html

When IOL modules are purchased, it may take up to three days to activate the modules. When the
modules are purchased, we get notification from the bookstore vendor, then the Education Registrar
must enable the modules for that purchaser.

The IOL modules are written in Java. Java modules can run on many different types of computers.
This includes PCs running Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP, Macintosh, Sun or Silicon Graphics
workstations, etc. The modules are not 100% compatible with every version of Java that is in
circulation. Users need to make sure they have the latest version of Java for their computer. There
are some other technical specifications about “session cookies” and browser versions that need to be
read before a user buys these modules. AAPG Geoscience Services will do our best to support all the
users and walk them through any difficulties.
AAPG ONLINE SERVICES GUIDE - 19 MARCH 2003 PAGE 20

The current modules are:

Module 1: Facies Mapping of Fluvial Gas Reservoirs in Seeligson Field, South Texas
Module 2: Outcrop Analogs of Fluvial Valley-Fill Reservoirs
Module 3: Correlation of Fluvial Gas Reservoirs in Stratton Field, South Texas
