The bill was finally passed on May 17, 1956 and was signed into law as Republic Act 1425 by
President Ramon Magsaysay. On June 12, 1956, Republic Act No. 1425 was sanctioned. It was
sponsored by Senador Claro M. Recto.

What does the law mandate us to do?


- Republict Act No. 1425 edict us to comprise in the curricula of sll public and private schools,
colleges and universities courses on the life, works and writings of Jose Rizal, particularly his novels
NOLI ME TANGERE and EL FILIBUSTERISMO, authorizing the printing and distribution thereof, and for
other purposes.
To fully elucidate what the law mandates, this act includes that The Life and Works and Writings
of Jose Rizal should be taught in the school not only in private but also in public schools. Youth should
be informed, enlightened and exposed to his works, contributions and life. His novels should be
known by many through authorizing the printing and distributing many copies.

What were the patriotic goals and policy statements that the law seek to achieve
or comply with?
- The ratification of Rizal Law delve to rededicate the lives of the youth to the ideals of freedom
and activism, for which our heroes lived and died; to pay his life and works in molding the Filipino
character; to yield an stirring pedigree of patriotism.
