Netaji Subash National Institute of Sports, Bangalore
Netaji Subash national institute of sports is one of the
premier institutions of Sports Authority of India (SAI)
under the ministry of youth affairs and sports,
Government of India and is established in the year
1974 to cater to the needs of Sports Personnel of
Southern Region comprising of the states of Andhra
Pradesh, Kamataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Lakshadweep &
Pondicherry.
4.1.1 LOCATION
It is located nearly 12 km from the Bangalore in
Nayandahalli. The Bangalore city itself is well
connected to all other parts of India and Hence the
Campus is located in One of the best cities in India.
4.1.2 ACCESS
The main approach road to the institute is through
Mysore road from east and from west, Bangalore
University
4.1.3 NEAR BY:
The campus is located near Nayandahalli railway
station, and the site itself is beside the railway tracks. It
is located in an educational precinct inside Bangalore
University. The nearness to the City makes every
utilities easily accessible.
4.1.4 SITE ZONING:
The whole site has an area of 81.2 acres which is
divided into 2 sectors by Vrisha Bavathi River running
through the site. And have contours which vary to a
range of 30 m distributed unevenly all over site.
Sector A (46.2 acres): consists of play fields and indoor
halls and remaining land is landscaped and used as
Golf course.
Sector B (35acres): consists of Academic and
administrative blocks, residential buildings and
swimming pool complex
The 5 major zones inside the campus are the following:

Administrative zone: This Zone caters the
administrative function of the whole campus which
houses the Main Administrative building. The main
entry to the site leads to this building and can be
viewed from a distance itself.

Academic zone:
The academic zone consists of the Sports Science and
Sports medicine block. It is placed amidst of the
Students and staff housing and can be easily accessed
and is beside the main road from the main entry.

Residential zone:
The residential zone have the student hostels, Elite
hostel, staff quarters and guest quarters located at the
southern sector. A separate entry to the zone enables
privacy and doesn't disturb the other functions of the
Campus. A staff club, general store etc. are provided to
support residential life.
Activity zone:
The whole Activity area is separated from other
activities and is located in the Sector A, creating a
productive environment. The Activity zone has
outdoor facilities like synthetic athletic track (1),
synthetic hockey fields (2), kabbadi court (2), Kho-
Kho court, Football ground(1), basketball ground (2),
tennis court (5 hard courts, 1 cement court),
Volleyball courts (3), Beach volleyball (1), sand
running track and clay track (1), 9 hole golf course,
shooting ranges. Indoor facilities have 2 indoor hall
complexes.

The main administration cum academic block is a
two storied building with linear plan.
BUILDING MATERIAL The whole building have
Rough granite facade with white painted framed
shades gives good aesthetic appeal and dignity.
Ground floor has got general administration, Bank,
auditoria which need to be accessed by public
frequently. Classrooms are placed in both storeys in
the western zone of the building with separate entry
hence provide more privacy to take up classes.

Second academic block which houses a number of
laboratories that support sports training in the
campus. This block also has linear plan with rooms
on either side of corridor which supplies good
ventilation. The offices of coaches, a seminar hall,
and psychology lab is placed in first floor.

Swimming pool complex
The Swimming pool complex is in a 2 acres of land
inside the campus and is located near to the
residential zone and adjoining the Vrishabavathi river.
it consists of: a Warm up pool, a main pool, a
building, filtration plant and landscaped area.
The Landscaped region act as a space to have ground
warm up exercises for the swimmers and is kept
green. A 3m dia well located inside the compound act
as a source to supply water to the pool.
WARM UP POOL: The warm up pool is a shallow pool
of dimensions 25x 21 m with 8 lanes of 1.1 m depth at
shallow and 1.5 m at middle. The capacity of warm up
pool is 6 lakh litres and can accommodate 30 people at
a time. The pool is used before starting swimming for a
45 m warming up.

MAIN POOL: The main pool has 50 m x 21 sq.m with 8
lanes each of width 2.5 m. it has a volume of 30 lakh
litres and can accommodate 32 persons at a time. Now
renovation of this pool is being done. Gutters
surrounding the pools contains potassium
permanganate solution in which athletes have to dip
before entering the pool. The two storeyed swimming
pool building has following facilities:
The Gymnasium: (30x 40 sq m) works exclusively for
swimming pool users and has got weightlifting
exercises and muscle puller exercise equipment in it
the Sauna: (4x 4 sq m) capacity 10 persons which is not
now functioning Showers and toilets: there is
provision for both ladies and gents separately and has
6 change rooms, 4 showers, and 2 toilets. Lockers are
also present. only 20 persons can use these facilities
which is insufficient.
4.1.5.4 GYMNASIUM COMPLEX
The administration offices are placed in double storied
structure with offices of coaches and instructors
placed in two floors, this block also has the toilet and
showers. All the spaces are naturally ventilated and
surrounds courtyard.
The sports halls are ventilated by stack effect and
keeps down the interior temperature.

The hostel blocks are arranged in linear way with a
comidor running in the centre and the rooms
placed on either side. The hostel blocks have a mess
and kitchen which is placed in the centre so that it
can be easily accessed from any part of the block.
4.1.5.6 Sports Fields
The football court is of dimensions 107x68 sq.m, and
is oriented along north south direction with a slight
tilt the eastern side. The pitch is laid with natural
tant and is maintained very badly, the football court
is ed for public gathering, matches are held very
rarely A synthetic track and a cinder track (for
practicing) provided.

Lakshmi bai National College of Physical
Education, Kariavattom, Tvm
The Lakshmibai National College of Physical
Education is a part of the academic wing of Sports
authority of India. The college is Affiliated to
University of Kerala it aims to serve as a model
institute for teachers training by offering
undergraduate and post graduate research courses.
Besides the academic programmes, the College
runs sports training schemes of SAI in few
disciplines. It provides excellent facilities for the
upliftment of physical education and sports in
country.
4.2.1 LOCATION
The campus is located in Kariavattom, which is 9 km
from Thiruvan
