Associate Director, Global Medical Data Science and Analytics

Could you lead a team of data scientists and data analysts to unlock the full potential of medical
data? Would you like to help drive faster and more effective medical decision-making across the
lifecycle of key GSK medicines and vaccines to better the lives of our patients?

The Global Medical Data Science and Analytics teams uses advanced NLP and machine learning
capabilities to help transform medical data into actionable insights. In this role, you will design and
implement data analytics strategies that enhance the ability of our medical teams across all GSK
Therapy Areas to identify insights from a variety of data (unstructured and structured) and enable
agile, informed decisions and tactics.

This is a key role in a growing and high visibility area within GSK – a great opportunity to deliver high

Key responsibilities include:

 Define the data science and analytics strategy and manage the roadmap to support the Medical
Insights team, both through ad-hoc projects, as well as new features for our text analytics
platform with a focus on maximising findings from unstructured data where customer feedback
can be harnessed (such as Medical voice of customer feedback from customer listening,
feedback via surveys and research, forums, online communities, social media/publicly available
information, call centre voice and email feedback and medical information requests, etc).
 Manages a team of Data Scientists and Analysts towards efficient execution of the strategy and
roadmap, using advanced analytics techniques such as natural language processing, text
analytics and machine learning, including hands-on support of all development activities.
Develop team members given methodological and advanced analytics approach expertise with
unstructured data analytics with a focus on fostering high morale and motivation.
 Implement sound model development methodology that includes clear model quality objectives
and quality measurement methods from the onset. Ensure that machine learning models are
appropriately trained and tuned for accuracy and relevance with analytical findings within the
team. Ensure SDLC principles are followed, and good quality code (ie. Well documented,
reusable, bug-free, etc) is delivered.
 Provide leadership and guidance for innovative and high-value analytics visualizations both for
ad-hoc projects and the text analytics platform.
 Stay on top of the latest external methods and approaches, current and emerging industry
trends, and advanced methods/best practices; Pull through expertise through critical
deliverables and work as a “player-coach”.
 Lead the team to demonstrate organization of complex information, making it relevant,
understandable and actionable; Demonstrate analytic curiosity and a desire to understand
challenges to contribute to matrix team reviews and strategic discussions for insight discovery;
Seek external benchmarks for continuous improvement leadership within the team.
 Drive efficiencies through collaboration and teamwork

Required qualifications and Experience

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
 Master’s degree/PhD in Software engineering, Machine Learning, NLP or Applied Quantitative
Sciences discipline
 Strong experience with applying Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning to large
unstructured data sets, preferably for sentiment analysis. Experience in medical terminologies a
plus.
 Language: expert in Python required (3 year+ experience), spark a plus.
 Hands on technical expertise, with experience in deploying NLP/ML models end-to-end until
production, with a view on optimization of running costs.
 Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, able to deliver convincing, clear
presentations to all levels of stakeholders.
 Experience leading agile software development/ ML teams – exposure to virtual teams strongly
preferred
 Good understanding of SDLC, and cloud ML infrastructure
 Good knowledge of database management, data reporting and analytics, data visualization for
business consumption, understanding of best practices with data structures for analytics and
reporting, data manipulation, database and analytics skills to develop insightful measures for
actions and decision making in a business setting

Preferred Requirements
 Experienced in healthcare/pharma
 Experience in Real World Data (RWD) and pharma “hard data analysis”
 Experience with social media listening / analysis
 Experience with Databricks and Azure
