Combustion
Combustion is a chemical reaction
between two or more chemicals,
usually involving oxygen, that
produces heat and light in the form
of a flame.
There are two types of
combustion first one is complete
combustion and the second one is
irregular combustion.
Complete combustion

Complete combustion is a chemical reaction

between two or more chemicals, usually
involving oxygen, that produces heat and
light in the form of a flame.Ussually occurs
when there is unlimited amount of oxygen
The hydrogen atoms are oxidised to

produce water (H2O).

The carbon atoms have been
completely oxidised to carbon dioxide
(CO2).

Equation;
Methane + Oxygen → Carbon
dioxide + Water
Irregular combustion
If there is insufficient oxygen, incomplete combustion occurs, resulting in the
production of carbon monoxide (CO). Take, for example, the incomplete
combustion of methane:

Incomplete combustion can also

produce particulate carbon, also
known as soot.
Equation;

Methane + Oxygen → Carbon

monoxide + Water
Uses of combustion in daily life
There are many uses of combustion in our daily
life. Some of them are;
Combustion is used in cooking for food.
Combustion is used to burn coal for electricity.
Combustion is used in
burning waste for waste management

Combustion is used in combustion engine for gasoline cars

Combustion is used for

Burning wood for bonfire..

Combustion is used in fire works.

Problems of combustion
Combustion benefits us in many ways but then combustion can
harm us.Combustion can turn a forest into ashes in less than a
day. Combustion can burn your house down in less than an hour.
Combustion can burn you in less than a few minutes. (Not only
does it burn, but there is a chance of dying by combustion
because of the toxic gases released.) This usually occurs when
you are not following precautions or when you don't stop the
fire at its beginning.
Fire safety
Never leave a burning candle unattended or in reach of a child
Have a fire escape plan and practice atleast two years.
Inspect fire extinguisher monthly.
Educate children to call 911 outside the home.
Make sure your electrical systems and appliances
maintained and checked regularly.
Install fire smoke alarm at home
How to stop fire
There are some ways which help
you to stop the fire by yourself
when it is not spreaded
much.Baking soda and salt can
handle small fire.Fire blankets and
fire extuingusher can handle a
medium amount of fire. If you
couldn't extuingsh the fire even
than call 911 and we will help you.
