1. Field of application

This standard shall apply to dimensions ,material ,internal and external

surface quality and marking of seamless and welded stainless steel pipes

for pipeline systems in the food industry .It shall apply in conjunction

with 17456 to seamless pipes and DIN 17455 to welded pipes .

2. Dimension

The dimension and permissible deviations of the pipes are listed in

Table 1

3. designation and order

 DIN 11850

3.1 details shall be specified in the following sequence in the designation

for pipes according to this standard:

_ Name ( pipe )

_ DIN number of this dimension standard ( DIN11850 )

_ Characteristic dimensions of the pipe . pipe outside diameter x

wall thickness ( see Table 1 )

_ DIN number of the technical specification ( welded pipes

DIN17455 , seamless pipes DIN 17456 )

_ Material number for the steel grade

_ Abbreviation for the surface quality (see Table 2 )

Example :

Designation of a welded pipe according to this standard with a pipe

outside of 40 mm and a wall thickness of 1 mm conforming to the

technical specifications according to DIN 17455 made of steel ( material

number 1.4301 ) surface quality finish BB:

DIN 17455-1.4301-BB

3.2 In addition to the standard designation according to paragraph 3.1 the

required quality ( e.g. total length of the delivery ) shall be specified in

the order.

When ordering the following shall be specified separately:

4 . Material

The following steel grade according to DIN 17455 and DIN 17456 can

be used :

a) standard materials :

X5CrNi1810 –material number 1.4301

X6CrNiMoTi17122-material number 1.4571

b) further materials :

X6CrNiMo17122 -material number 1.4401

X2CrNiMo18143 -material number 1.4435

X6CrNiTi1810-material number 1.4541

1) insofar as pipes are envisaged for further processing by shaping (e . g . bending),
preferably pipes in the heat treated condition shall be ordered.
2) pickled surfaces with finishes h according to DIN 17456,K1,K2 or I1 according to DIN
17455 shall be specially agreed when ordering .

6 Marking

The pipes shall be marking according to the provisions of the technical

specifications DIN 17456 or DIN 17455 with :

_ manufacture mark

_ steel grade ( material number )

_ surface quality mark ( see Table 2 )

Information concerning use

Pipes according to this standard can be used up to the permissible

operating overpressures according to DIN 2413 , July 1972 edition , field

of application Ⅰ under a static load at room temperature

The permissible operating overpressures were calculated for welded pipes

with calculation value of steel grade 1.4301 taking into account utilization

of the permissible calculation stress of 80% in the weld

c) Steel grade 1.4541 and 1.4571 included

d) Designation and ordering based on DIN17455 and DIN17456

e) Internal and external surface quality newly classified and newly

specified

f) Reference to use included
