Seven Rathi and its crossbred heifers were repeatedly superovulated four times using the method
of Orkawa et al 1998 (Therio.) CIDR-B implant was place<l in the vagina of the anirnals irrespective
9f rire stage of estrous and animals were superovulated by irlecting decreasing doses of porcine SH
(Inj, Super-Ov, Ausa International, USA) administered over 4 days in 8 divided doses administered
l2 h apart starring from day 8 of the CIDR-B implant. PG injection was administered at the time of
6th injection of rhe FSH and the implant was withdrawn at the sarre time. Animals were AI 12 and
24 h after estrus detection and embryos recovered non-surgically 6-7 days later. Fourteen days after
the embryo recovery, CIDR-B implant was placed again and the same superovulatory treatment was
repeatcd three times. The estrous induction interval varied between 30.45*3.75 to 37.0*4.50 days,
and estrous duration 22.0*2.40 to 30.55*h forthe superovulatory estrous. The overall mean su-
perovulatory response was 9.39,i:1.28 (number of CL detected by rectal palpation). The superovu-
latory response for the first treatment was 10.0* 1.67, which declined to 9.71 s:l.26,9.85f L78 and
8.0+1.0 during the second, third and fburth treatments, respectively. Only 14.29% (i/7) animals
showed a high response during the first two treatments. The ANOVA for superovu.latroy response
for repearecl superovulation showed non-significant differences (P>0.05). The overall total embryo
recovery was 7.82t L33. Total embryo recovery OER) for the lirst, second, third and fourth treat-
ment was 8.57i1.70, ?.85* 1.20,'1.5'7*.1.61 and 6.14*0.88, respectively. The ANOVA for TER
showed non-significant differences. The overall mean transferabie grade embryo recovery (TGE)
was 6.07:f , whereas the TGE was 7.28* 1 .32,6. 14+0.89,6.57 ! 1 .49 and 4.28l0.42 for the four re-

peated trearments, which were not clifferent statistically (P>0.05), The fertilization rates declined
during rhe fourth repeated supcrovulatory treatment. Only one animal developed polycystic ovary
after the treatments, which was resolved after treatment with GnRH. It can be concluded that re-
peated superovulation has little effect on the superovulatory response, total embryo recovery and
the recovery of transferrable grade embryos, however, the fertilization rate declines after the thrrd
repeated treatment.
