B. Proper Conduct Inside the laboratory

Given below is the list of the proper conduct expected to a lab student when inside or in the vicinity of the laboratory.
Read each item in the list, then think of the reason or justification behind each. Write it (the justification) on the
space provided after each item.

1. Students should come to lab class prepared. Read and understand the exercise prior to coming to class. Make a
schematic diagram for a more efficient work

2. Loitering in the corridors and hallways of a laboratory is not allowed

3. Laboratories and its corridors should not be used for any non-laboratory activity.

4. Inside the lab, wear clothes that minimize exposure of your skin, such as long pants, closed shoes and long
sleeved lab gowns

5. Bags, books and other unnecessary things must be placed on designated places such as student lockers provided
outside the laboratory. Only the manual, sample, data sheet, toolbox, calculators and pens are allowed in the
working area.

6. Confine long hair and loose clothing.

7. Faithfully follow all safety rules

8. Before undertaking any laboratory work, become familiar with the hazards of the chemicals involved. Be sure to
follow safety precautions that protect you and others from those hazards

9. Become familiar with the hazards of chemicals, the apparatuses and the operation involved. Learn what to do
and what to avoid doing

10. Strictly follow the school waste management plan. Throw waste only at appropriate waste disposal container.
11. No horseplaying, and no boisterous conversations during laboratory class.

12. The use of cellphones and other similar gadgets are not allowed inside the laboratory.

13. Clean as you work. Table tops should be free from any unnecessary materials. After use, return the stools,
chemicals and glassware to their proper place, and clean the area before leaving.

14. Use only glasswares that come from the assigned locker and the ones borrowed from the stockroom.

15. Do not work alone.

16. Never perform unauthorized experiments or change procedures without the approval of your teacher.

17. Maintain an awareness of your surroundings, and move purposefully around others.

18. Never remove chemicals from the laboratory without proper authorization, and report to your instructor any
observed unauthorized removal of chemicals by others.

19. Notify your instructor if you observe violations of your laboratory’s safety rules; you could save someone’s life.

20. Visitors are strictly not allowed inside the lab
