TO: Retirees whose healthcare does not change with actives

RE: BCBMS Coverage Update

In early January, BCBSM notified Genesee County that their policy did not allow them to
underwrite retiree only groups. Genesee County notified retirees of this information. In the
meantime, Genesee County continued discussions with BCBSM. On February 2, 2023,
BCBSM notified Genesee County that they were providing a waiver to their policy that would
allow for coverage of our retiree group.

Will my current Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance continue after May 31, 2023?
Yes, if you are receiving this letter, BCBSM will continue to be an option for you.

Will my coverage be the same?

Yes. The BCBSM plan you currently have will continue.

Do I need to do anything?
No. Your insurance coverage will continue. You will receive your open enrollment package
in late March as usual. However, if you are continuing with BCBSM, you will not need to do
anything.

Will there ever be an instance where my insurance could change?

It is not the intention of Genesee County to change health insurance providers. BCBSM
said they would like a long-term relationship with the County. They did NOT promise that
they would never change this special exception to their policy. Continued coverage will be
driven by BCBSM policy. Regardless of any future decision by BCBSM, Genesee County
will continue to provide health insurance coverage to eligible retirees.

Where can I get the most accurate information about my insurance coverage?
For the most accurate information about your insurance, you should contact Genesee
County Human Resources directly.
