BIOGRAPHY OF AN ATHLETE

Yusra Mardini is an athlete, concretely a swimmer, born in Syria and lived there for a
long time, she was born in 1998. She represented the refugee team in the Olympics in
2016 in Rio de Janeiro and in 2020 in Tokyo.
Her life hasn’t been easy because when she was 16 years old escaped from Syria to go
to Germany and fulfill her dream, go to the Olympics. The trip wasn’t easy because she
had to go to various trucks and places that were really expensive and dangerous. The
worst part was the boat from Turkey to Greece, because she had to swim all the way
with her sister. However, after a lot of effort and when they arrived in Germany, they
were really lucky to find Sven, her new trainer, he helped Yusra and Sarah, her sister,
to train and have good sleep. And thanks to him she was able to go to the Olympics.
Nowadays she lives in Norway, and she is training and working for the ACNUR
foundation. As I said she represented the refugee team in Rio and won the butterfly
stroke.
In my opinion, Yusra is a very brave and strong person and a strong woman with a lot
of experience. I liked her history very much because it can inspire.
