Definition of Farmer Categories.
• Small scale: Cultivates 1 to 5 hectares and the motive is mainly household food
security, depends on family labor, use hand implements and generally depend on
Extension Workers or social gatherings as sources of agricultural information.

• Medium/Emergent Scale: Cultivates 5 to 10 hectares per season with a motive to
sell, possess own animal draft power or lighter tractors, able to hire extra hands at
peak times.
• Commercial: cultivates 20 Hectares and above and high level of mechanization.
