Shri Shivaratri Puja
17TH, 18TH AND 19TH FEBRUARY 2023 – VISAKHAPATNAM (AP)
“No deity is as generous and as loving as Lord Shiva. He is the source of love.
The love that is flowing today is emanating from His Holy feet. It is because of
Him that human beings are bathing in the ocean of love and all this work is getting
done. After self-realization when you attain that state – the state of say Jeev Atma,
then your attention gets established in the Holy feet of Lord Shiva and the
qualities of five elements (Pancha Tattva) become very subtle and manifest.
Already I have told you about the four elements but the fifth one, ‘Ether’, I didn’t
touch. In Hindi we call it ‘Aakash Tattva’ (Sky Element). When a seeker ascends,
he attains subtle Aakasha, the Subtlety of Ether element. There is no need to
activate this element. If a seeker has some problem, this element is omnipresent.
It is present everywhere. Your attention immediately reaches where it is required.
It is just wonderful? It is like that; people may call it miracle, but it is not. In
Sahaja Yoga if your Shiva Tattva is awakened, they all subtle the subtlest qualities
and the subtlest state that is within you, gets awakened. Therefore, first of all we
should purify our heart.”

The city is also home to the oldest shipyard and the only natural harbor on the east
coast of India. Visakhapatnam Port is the fourth-busiest cargo port in India.
Visakhapatnam serves as the headquarters for the Indian Navy's Eastern Naval
Command.
The city is a major tourist destination and is known for its beaches,
ancient Buddhist sites, and the natural environment of the surrounding Eastern
Ghats. It is nicknamed as the "City of Destiny" and the "Jewel of the East Coast".
Visakhapatnam's history dates back to the 6th century B.C., when it was considered
part of the Kalinga Kingdom, and later ruled by the Vengi,
the Pallava and Eastern Ganga dynasties. Visakhapatnam was an ancient Port
city which had trade relations with the Middle East and Rome. Ships were
anchored at open roads and were loaded with cargo transported from
Visakhapatnam shore by means of small Masula boats.
The city's control was alternating between the Chola dynasty and the Gajapati
Kingdom in 11th and 12th centuries, until its conquest by the Vijayanagara
Empire in the 15th century. In the 16th century, after the decline of the
Vijayanagara empire and the Gajapatis, the coastal region of North Andhra,
including Visakhapatnam, was annexed by the Jeypore Kingdom and remained
part of it until the arrival of the British in 1711.

“Simha” means lion and “Anchala” means hill. Hence the temple is located at
the top of the hill and it is called as Simhachalam which is the temple of Lord
Narasimha(Avatar of Lord Vishnu).
This Temple is one of the eighteen “Narasimha Kshetras” In India, it is very
rich and well-kept temple in the architecture. Earlier it was said that the
queen once donated gold plating to cover the whole body of the Lord.
The deity of Lord Narasimha is about 2 1/2 feet high and the original shape
of deity is in the form of tribhanga posture with the head of a lion on a human
chest, thus makes it very unique Deity. Priests in the temple apply the
Chandana daily on the Lord’s body to cool his anger. This sandal wood
powder will be removed once in a year during the Vaishaka which falls in the
month of April / May.
Outside the deity room, the pillar called Kappam Stambham in the Mukya –
Mandapam of the temple is decorated with cloth and surrounded by the
silver plates with flower garlands.
