Jai Shri Mataji

Regional
Shri Shivaratri Puja
17TH, 18TH AND 19TH FEBRUARY 2023 – VISAKHAPATNAM (AP)

“No deity is as generous and as loving as Lord Shiva. He is the source of love.
The love that is flowing today is emanating from His Holy feet. It is because of
Him that human beings are bathing in the ocean of love and all this work is getting
done. After self-realization when you attain that state – the state of say Jeev Atma,
then your attention gets established in the Holy feet of Lord Shiva and the
qualities of five elements (Pancha Tattva) become very subtle and manifest.
Already I have told you about the four elements but the fifth one, ‘Ether’, I didn’t
touch. In Hindi we call it ‘Aakash Tattva’ (Sky Element). When a seeker ascends,
he attains subtle Aakasha, the Subtlety of Ether element. There is no need to
activate this element. If a seeker has some problem, this element is omnipresent.
It is present everywhere. Your attention immediately reaches where it is required.
It is just wonderful? It is like that; people may call it miracle, but it is not. In
Sahaja Yoga if your Shiva Tattva is awakened, they all subtle the subtlest qualities
and the subtlest state that is within you, gets awakened. Therefore, first of all we
should purify our heart.”

Visakhapatnam - Significance.
Visakhapatnam also known as Vizag, Viśākha or Waltair, is the largest and
most populous city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is between
the Eastern Ghats and the coast of the Bay of Bengal.

The city is also home to the oldest shipyard and the only natural harbor on the east
coast of India. Visakhapatnam Port is the fourth-busiest cargo port in India.
Visakhapatnam serves as the headquarters for the Indian Navy's Eastern Naval
Command.

The city is a major tourist destination and is known for its beaches,
ancient Buddhist sites, and the natural environment of the surrounding Eastern
Ghats. It is nicknamed as the "City of Destiny" and the "Jewel of the East Coast".
Visakhapatnam's history dates back to the 6th century B.C., when it was considered
part of the Kalinga Kingdom, and later ruled by the Vengi,
the Pallava and Eastern Ganga dynasties. Visakhapatnam was an ancient Port
city which had trade relations with the Middle East and Rome. Ships were
anchored at open roads and were loaded with cargo transported from
Visakhapatnam shore by means of small Masula boats.

A reference to Vizagapatam merchant is available in the inscriptions of Sri

Bheemeswara Swamy temple (1068 AD), East Godavari District, Andhra
Pradesh. During 12th century AD, Vizagapatam was a fortified merchandize
town managed by a guild.

The city's control was alternating between the Chola dynasty and the Gajapati
Kingdom in 11th and 12th centuries, until its conquest by the Vijayanagara
Empire in the 15th century. In the 16th century, after the decline of the
Vijayanagara empire and the Gajapatis, the coastal region of North Andhra,
including Visakhapatnam, was annexed by the Jeypore Kingdom and remained
part of it until the arrival of the British in 1711.

Evidently, the Maharaja of Jeypore was commonly referred to as the Maharaja

of Visakhapatnam until the dissolution of the princely state in 1947. European
powers eventually established trade operations in the city, and by the end of the
18th century it had come under French colonial rule. Control passed to the East
India Company in 1804 and it remained under British colonial rule until Indian
independence in 1947.

mainly Araku Tribes.
One of the largest caves in the country, Borra Caves are home to million-
year-old stalactite and stalagmite formations. Perched at an elevation of
1,400 m above sea level, the majestic caves are a visual treat for visitors.
They came into existence as a result of the flow of Gosthani river on the
limestone deposits in the area. Some of the imposing stalactite and
stalagmite formations that can be seen here include those of Lord Shiva and
his consort Goddess Parvati, a mother and her child, a crocodile, a human
brain and a tiger. These caves were discovered by William King George of the
Geological Survey of India.
Legend has it that Borra Caves was first discovered when a cowherd, while
searching for one of his lost cows, accidentally came across them. There he
found a shivling deep inside the cave, along with his cow. He believed that
Lord Shiva had saved his cow. Later, villagers built a small temple just
outside the caves. Borra Caves draw tourists from all across the country and
is worth marking on the itinerary.
