GAWAD NG MANLILIKKA NG BAYAD AWARD OR
GAMABA
 distinction given by the government to the
finest traditional artists of the land. The search
is done by the National Commission for Culture
and the Arts (NCCA).
 It was institutionalized through the Republic Act
7355 on April 1992 stating that Manlilikha ng
Bayan shall mean citizen engaged in any
traditional art uniquely Filipino, whose skills
have reached high level of technical and artistic
excellence, and if it has been passed on and
widely used by the present generation.
In order to be a Manlilikha ng Bayan, a candidate/s
must:
 Posses a mastery of tools and materials needed
for traditional art and also be the maker of
works;
 Have consistently produces works of superior
quality over a long time;
 Engaged in a traditional and folk art for at least
50 years;
 Command respect and inspire admiration of the
country;
 Must have transferred or willing to transfer his
skills to the other members of the community.
 If a candidate, due to age, is note able to teach
still may be recognized if he possess the other
qualifications.
Benefits and privileges of being an awardee are:
For individual:
 The rank and title of Manlilikha ng Bayan, as
proclaimed by the President of the Philippines
in accordance with Executive Order No. 236 or
Honors Code of the Philippines;
 The GAMABA gold-plated medallion;
  A lifetime emolument and materials and
physical benefits comparable in value to those
received by the highest officers of the land
The first batch of female GAMABA Awardees are Lang
Dulay known for weaving Abaca Fibers, Salinta Monon
known for the Abaca Icat, Haja Amina Appi a mat
weaver known for her fine details, and Darhata Sawabi
known for her Pis Syabit or silk weaving.
